A 13 year old post primary school dropout, on Friday beheaded his mother at Isiagu Ibakwa in Igboeze South local council of Enugu state. The boy whose name was given as Ifesinachi Ugwueze was said to have hacked his mother, Beatrice Ugwueze, a widow in yet to be disclosed issue. The deceased was alone with her son in the house and grinding pepper for lunch with her local grinding stone when Ifesinachi descended on her with a cutlass and severed her head from the rest of her body. The screaming and groan of the deceased alerted the neighbourhood who chased  the suspect in his attempt to escape. Read more

Lagos is sure for APC, says Tinubu (Guardian)

National Leader of the APC, Chief Bola Tinubu, on Saturday, charged prospective voters to cast their ballot for the APC in the forthcoming election. Tinubu, addressing the mammoth crowd of supporters at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, venue of the party’s Presidential campaign, said that the opposition in 16 years failed to put Nigeria on a pedestal of growth despite enormous resources. NDLEA raids hideouts of drug peddlers, arrests 64 suspects (Guardian)

The Jigawa Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has embarked on constant raid of drug peddlers’ hideouts across the state. The NDLEA Commandant in the state, Josephine Obi, made this known in Dutse on Saturday. Obi said the raids were being carried out by men of the command at various places suspected to be hideouts of drug peddlers in all the 27 local government areas of the state. She explained that the operation, aimed to avoid incidences of violence and crimes during the 2019 General Elections, began in January 2019. Read more

Wife of the President, Hajia Aisha Buhari on Saturday asked Nigerians especially women and youths to resist any form of violence during the 2019 general elections, telling them to vote and not fight. Addressing the women and youths after a Walk for Buhari campaign on Saturday in Abuja, Hajia Buhari who was represented by the Wife of the Vice President, Dolapo Osinbajo said Nigerians should vote peacefully, wait until their votes are counted before going home. She said “we don’t want any fight. Vote peacefully, don’t fight. Shittes alert gov’t of unknown gunmen in Zaria (Guardian)

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (popularly known as Shitte Group) has alerted the Nigerian public of movements of unknown gunmen in Zaria, Kaduna State. Shitte spokesman Ibrahim Musa, who made the disclosure in a statement, said the group had received credible reports that some unusual movements by certain unknown persons with dangerous weapons around the Sabon gari area of the city on Thursday, February 7 2019. Okowa orders sack of aide for assault (Nation)

Delta Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has ordered the sack of Mr Friday Eluro who was caught on video assaulting a woman. The Governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Charles Aniagwu, frowned at the assault on a woman by an appointee of government who ought to ensure that rule of law was observed in all situations. Part of the statement said,”Governor Okowa having watched the video of the assault on a certain woman has directed that the appointment of Mr Friday Eluro as Security Aide be terminated forthwith to serve as deterrent to others.” Read more

Policeman attached to SDP candidate kills okada rider (Punch)

A yet-to-be identified commercial motorcyclist, popularly called okada rider, was allegedly killed by a policeman in Ipogun town in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State on Thursday evening. The policeman, whose name had yet to be identified as of the time of filing this report, was said to be a security aide to a House of Representatives candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Tajudeen Adefisoye. According to a source, the candidate had gone to the town at about 6.30pm to campaign ahead of the forthcoming election when the incident happened. Read more

Confident Manchester United moved into the Premier League’s top four with a dominant win over struggling Fulham at Craven Cottage. Anthony Martial was in sensational form, making the first for Paul Pogba and scoring a wonderful second as United secured their 10th victory in 11 games under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Olympique Marseille president Eyraud burgled while at a game (Guardian)

The home of Olympique Marseille president Jacques-Henri Eyraud was burgled during the night while he was away watching the team in action, local police said on Saturday. Eyraud was in Dijon, where Marseille won in Ligue 1 on Friday evening. Police said they were focused on identifying the burglar or burglars and gave no details of what was stolen. Eyraud has been one of the targets of recent protests by disgruntled Marseille fans. Read more
