Lagos CP orders posthumous trial of F-SARS operative who killed LASTMA official (Punch)

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, has ordered the posthumous trial and dismissal of an operative of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Inspector Olukunle Olonade.

Olonade, who was in mufti, had allegedly shot dead an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Rotimi Adeyemi, at the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos State on Wednesday.

The LASTMA official had reportedly confronted the policeman, who had contravened the state traffic law. Read more

Man ‘rapes’ hearing, speech impaired teenager (Nation)

The police in Lagos have arrested 40-year-old Mukaila Aliu for alleged sexual assault on a teenager who could neither hear nor speak.

Aliu, a resident of 17 Peluola Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi was apprehended on November 19, a year after committing the alleged offence.

The suspect was said to have been on the run since November 10, last year when he allegedly lured the victim under the guise that he wanted to buy noodles for her. Read more

Brothers behead 10-year-old for N200,000 in Lagos (Punch)

Anti-kidnapping operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two brothers, Saheed Obadimeji, 19, and Ayodeji Obadimeji, 18, for allegedly beheading 10-year-old Joseph Makinde over N200,000.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, said in a statement on Wednesday that the operatives were on a routine patrol on the Ajah/Epe Expressway when they arrested the two brothers for having in their possession a fresh human head.

He added that upon interrogation, the brothers confessed that one Sodiq Abefe contracted them to provide a human head for N200,000. Read more

Bricklayer jailed for assaulting prostitute (Nation)

A bricklayer, Edet Imoh, 40, was on Wednesday at the Ikeja Sexual Offence and Domestic Violence Court sentenced to five years in prison for indecent assault of a commercial sex worker.

The convict, who brought his belongings to the court thinking he would be freed, having been in custody since 2017, burst into tears on hearing the judgment.

Although Imoh was charged with rape and stealing, Justice Sybil Nwaka convicted him of indecent assault. Read more

Three robbers who allegedly rob Guardian editor to appear in court (Independent)

Three armed robbers alleged to have robbed the Editor in Chief of the Guardian Newspaper, Debo Adesina, will soon appear in court, Police Commissioner Lagos State Command Edgal Imohimi has said.

The commissioner said this on Friday while parading the five persons alleged to have been involved in the crime.

The three suspect arrested are:  Tunde Segun, 23 years, Ayo Omoniyi,  24 years and Samson Oyeleye, 22 years. Read more

Driver, guard remanded for unlawful possession of firearm (Punch)

A commercial driver and a security guard have been remanded in prison after pleading guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm and marijuana.

Twenty-two-year-old Sodiq Adenitan and 23-year-old Femi Oyediran were charged with six counts of conspiracy, unlawful possession of marijuana, breach of peace and unlawful possession of firearms.

Following their guilty plea, the presiding magistrate, Mrs M. O. Tanimola, ordered that the accused be kept behind bars pending the review of the facts of the case and their sentencing. Read more

Alleged notorious kidnapper arrested, one killed in shootout with police (Independent)

The Anti-kidnapping Squad of the Police, Lagos State Command, acting on the directive of the Command’s Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi, has smashed kidnappers hideout at Agbowa, area of Ikorodu.

It was gathered that the operation led to the arrest of one Austine Inuesokan Ebimiyenwei, 27, a native of Arogbo Azapa community of Ese-Odo, Local Government Area (LGA), Ondo State and the recovery of corpse of one Festus Abama who died in a gun duel while two others escaped with bullet wounds.

The Command had earlier on November 11 and 16 received two separate reports from one Suleiman Eniola Ajumobi and one Veronica Ewuru, about the kidnapping of their daughter and husband, respectively. Read more

EFCC accuses businessman of providing false information (Nation)

A businessman, Rashid Huthman, on Wednesday appeared before the Ikeja Special Offences Court for allegedly giving false information to an official of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC charged Huthman with his company, Complete Leisure Estate Ltd, before Justice Mojisola Dada.

EFCC counsel Mr. Nkereuwem Anana alleged that the accused committed the offence between June 22, 2016 and February 15, 2017 in Lagos. Read more

Driver in court for alleged theft of employer’s truck (Nation)

A 21-year-old driver, David Uruwah, who allegedly disappeared with his employer’s truck on Wednesday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Uruwah, whose address was not provided, faces a three-count charge of stealing, conduct likely to cause breach of peace and fraudulent conversion to which pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Ben Ekundayo, said the accused committed the offences on Nov. 16, at Abel Sowo International Company Ltd, Tincan Island Apapa, Lagos. Read more

Man arrested for allegedly burgling police officer’s house (Punch)

For allegedly breaking into the house of a Chief Superintendent of Police and making away with his money and property, one Mohammed Salisu has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused, whose residential address was not provided, is facing two counts of burglary and stealing.

It was gathered that the suspect had been living in an uncompleted building within the Police College, Ikeja. Read more

Man, 30, in court over alleged theft of government bicycle (Nation)

A 30-year-old man, Kayode Oduola, on Tuesday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged theft of a bicycle belonging to the state Neighbourhood Safety Corp.

Oduola, who has no fixed address, was arraigned on a two-count charge of stealing and breach of the peace.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Read more
