Buhari is corrupt because the government he presides over is corrupt – Saraki

Senate President and Director General Atiku/PDP presidential campaign, Bukola Saraki, has described President Muhammadu Buhari as corrupt. He made the assertion in a Channels TV interview monitored in Lagos.

Saraki said in 2015 the All Progressives Candidate (APC) accused Goodluck Jonathan of condoning corruption and presiding over a corrupt government. They called him corrupt even though there was no evidence of corruption against him personally.

So, today it is safe to say that Buhari is corrupt “because the government he presides over is corrupt.”

Underlining his assertion, Saraki said the petroleum subsidy was one issue that made us accuse Jonathan of corruption.

The Jonathan government was funding the subsidy on “an assumption of 30m litres daily and experts will tell you that Nigerians cannot consume more than 22m litres daily.” So, we said Jonathan was condoning corruption. But a government that is fighting corruption is assuming 50m litres daily consumption. “It is a huge fraud.”

If in 2015 we could kick out GEJ over the subsidy scam what do you think will happen now, things have gone worse.

Responding to a question regarding Atiku Abubakar’s chances of being elected president due to the perception that he is corrupt, Saraki said “The perception that Atiku is corrupt is not reality.”

Saraki, who said PDP’s nation-wide campaigns will begin next week, accused the APC government of “choking” the opposition. He said PDP and other parties are unable to raise funds or hold fundraising dinners as was the case in 2015.

He also said that while President Buhari continues to say the election is not a do-or-die affair the people under him don’t support that. He has to show that he means it.

Concluding Bukola Saraki said he was confident that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would deliver credible elections if left alone. “If INEC is left alone, I will give them benefit of the doubt.”
