A former Deputy National Chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George, has called on the Nigeria Police to set up an impartial Special Investigation Panel to probe the killing of the Apapa Local Government PDP Chairman, Mr Adeniyi Aborishade. Aborishade, who was also the PDP Chairman of Chairmen in Lagos State, was reportedly murdered by gunmen on July 26 at Igbokusu in Lekki, Eti Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State during the party’s visitation meeting. The outgoing Ambassador of Denmark to Nigeria, Mr Torben Gettermann, has stressed the need for Nigerians to hold politicians, companies and individuals accountable to win the anti-corruption crusade in the country. The Lagos State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Moshood Salvador, has dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC). He said his exit marks the end of PDP in the state. Mr Salvador announced his defection on Monday while addressing his supporters in Lagos. Immediate past President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, over alleged impersonation by certain persons using his name to solicit for funds. In the petition addressed to the IGP, Director-General, Department of State Services, DSS, and copied to the Edo State Commissioner of Police, the cleric alleged that “Someone has been using the name of Endurance Orphanage Foundation” to impersonate me on social media. Senior lawyers and notable political actors, yesterday, took umbrage at President Muhammadu Buhari’s elevation of national interest above the rule of law, with several of them lamenting that the country was headed the path of dictatorship. President Buhari, however, found support from the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Professor Itse Sagay, SAN, who said he would even extend Buhari’s assertions beyond national security to even putting the fight against corruption above the rule of law. Police arrest Nollywood actor over assault, vandalisation at Lagos airport (Guardian)
Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke, was yesterday arrested by the police at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos, over alleged assault and vandalisation of Dana Air property. The Guardian learnt that Iyke allegedly slapped a Dana Air official, who insisted on the security procedure before boarding. Iyke, however, later apologised to the airline and was released to travel at about 6:00p.m. Read more
