Nigeria, partners target 26.2m people for yellow fever vaccination (Nation)

ABOUT 26.2 million people are expected to be vaccinated in the second round of a yellow fever campaign being conducted by the Federal Government and its partners, it was learnt yesterday. The campaign is taking place as Nigeria experiences a yellow fever outbreak since September 2017, with confirmed cases recorded in 27 local government areas across 14 states. ‘Sex for jobs’ exposed at African Union (BBC)

Sexual harassment is a problem for women who work at the African Union Commission, an internal investigation has found.The inquiry was instigated in May and it invited all staff members who had cases of complaint to come forward for a confidential interview. The investigating committee found “almost unanimous confirmation” of sexual harassment in the evidence of the interviewees, an AU statement says.According to interviewees, the young women are exploited for sex in exchange for jobs.”The investigation found that those most vulnerable to such exploitation were “short-term staff, youth volunteers and interns”. Rape victim accused of attempting to murder baby could face 20 years in prison (CNN)

A young woman who became pregnant after being raped by her stepfather is to go on trial in El Salvador accused of attempting to murder her baby, under the country’s strict abortion laws.Imelda Cortez, 20, gave birth to her stepfather’s baby in a latrine in April last year, according to the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL), which has been supporting her case. Woman docked for stabbing brother-in-law with broken bottle (Nation)

A 33-year-old woman, Chioma Iwu, who police accused of stabbing her brother-in-law with a broken bottle on Friday appeared in a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ court  Lagos. Iwu, who resides in Lekki area of Lagos, is charged with assault.
