Ed Sheeran in a recent interview with Conan O’Brien has spoken on the amount of weed that Nigerian Afrobeat singer Burna Boy consumes.

The British singer who has had international collaborations and has worked with Burna Boy on songs like Burna Boy – “For My Hand” feat. Ed Sheeran, Stormzy – “Own it” (feat. Ed Sheeran & Burna Boy), narrates how his studio was puffed with smoke from Burna Boy.

Ed Sheeran further compared the amount of weed that Burna Boy smokes to that of American singer Snoop Dogg, referring to the Nigerian singer, as the only person he’s known ingesting so much weed. Read more 

Lagos coroner summons Naira Marley, Prime Boy, Sam Larry over MohBad’s death (Nation)

A Lagos coroner court sitting in Ikorodu has summoned music stars, Abdulazeez Fashola, a.k.a. Naira Marley,  Owodunni Eletu a.k.a. Sam Larry, and Owodunni Ibrahim a.k.a Primeboy over the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba a.k.a. Mohbad.

The Coroner Magistrate, Adedayo Shotobi on Friday, October 13, summoned the music stars to appear before it on October 25 in the ongoing inquest to unravel the cause of death of Mohbad and those culpable over the incident.

The police also informed the coroner that an autopsy is yet to be completed to determine the actual cause of death of Mohbad. Read more 

Tinubu pulls FCTA out of TSA (Tribune)

President Bola Tinubu has withdrawn the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to enable it utilise its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for project development, making the FCT Minister more powerful in the process.

FCT Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike disclosed this to newsmen on Friday during press conference in Abuja. He said the President approved the proposal after he tabled it before him.

The TSA, a Federal Government policy that requires all government revenue to be deposited into a single account, was introduced in 2015 to improve transparency and accountability in government finances. Read more 

LASTMA seizes 18 trucks for indiscriminate parking (Punch)

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has impounded 18 trucks at Apapa, Lagos State.

The agency’s Public Relations Officer, Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed this to PUNCH Metro in an exclusive interview on Thursday.

Taofiq said the removal of the abandoned trucks followed the expiration of a removal order issued to the owners. Read more

The Lagos State University (LASU) and the University of Sierra Leone have expanded the existing partnership between both West African institutions of learning.

This was disclosed in a statement on Friday on X (formerly Twitter) after the officials of the University of Sierra Leone paid a visit to their counterparts at LASU.

“The Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Boyo, on Thursday received in audience, a representative of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Sierra Leone and Dean of the Institution’s School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Fraizer Williams, at the VC’s Conference Room, 6th floor of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo,” LASU wrote. Tinubu pulls FCTA out of TSA, allows Wike generate IGR (DailyTrust)

President Bola Tinubu has pulled the Federal Capital Territory Administration ( FCTA) out of the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

This, he said, would allow Nyesom Wike-led FCTA to use the territory’s Internally Generated Revenue IGR for the development of the nation’s capital.

Wike, who disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja on Friday, also said the President has approved the creation of the FCT Civil Service Commission. Read more

Lightning kills Catholic Priest in Benue (NewTelegraph)

Rev. Fr. Faustinus Gundu, a Catholic priest affiliated with St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jootar, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, has passed away.

The clergyman reportedly died on Thursday after he was struck by lightning.

Information obtained by newsmen suggests that the late Father Gundu, who had placed a towel outdoors, went outside to retrieve it when an unexpected rain shower began. Read more

The Libertines announce new album “All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade” (FarOut)

The Libertines have shared their new single ‘Run, Run, Run’ and announced details of their long-awaited fourth album ‘‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade’’.

The new LP is set for release on March 8th through EMI and marks the first album by the group since 2015’s Anthems For Doomed Youth. Tracks which appear on the upcoming 11-song album include ‘Merry Old England’, ‘Mustang’, ‘Man With The Melody’, ‘Be Young’ and closer ‘Songs They Never Play On The Radio’.

Peter Doherty and Carl Bârat officially started working on the album last September at a studio in Geejam in Port Antonio, Jamaica. European Commission asks X for details on Israel-Hamas war disinformation (UPI)

The European Commission asked social media company X for information under a new EU law as part of an investigation concerning whether the platform is taking down disinformation about the Israeli-Gaza war.

The commission on Thursday gave X, formerly Twitter, until Oct. 18 to provide the information on its “crisis response protocol” in the wake of the conflict and until Oct. 31 to provide updates on its compliance with the Digital Services Act’s provisions on illegal content, complaint handling, risk assessment and measures to mitigate the risks identified.

“Following its designation as Very Large Online Platform, X is required to comply with the full set of provisions introduced by the DSA since late August 2023, including the assessment and mitigation of risks related to the dissemination of illegal content, disinformation, gender-based violence, and any negative effects on the exercise of fundamental rights, rights of the child, public security and mental well-being,” the commission said. Nigeria’s Oduduru gets 6-year ban for doping violation (Tribune)

Nigerian sprinter Divine Oduduru has been given a six-year ban for breaching two doping violations.

The Athletics Integrity Union (AIU) on Thursday in a statement said the Nigerian was handed a four-year ban for the possession of prohibited substances/attempted use of a prohibited substance and an additional two years for “aggravating circumstances”.

The former world junior silver medalist was also ordered to pay $ 3,000 to the World Athletics for its legal fees and other expenses regarding the case. Read more

The English Football Association will pay tribute to the Israeli and Palestinian victims of the war in the Middle East when England hosts Australia in a friendly match at Wembley Stadium on Friday.

Plans, however, do not include lighting up the national stadium’s iconic arch in the colors of Israel’s flag, despite increasing calls to do so, the FA said Thursday.

Former PSG boss Christophe Galtier replaces Hernan Crespo as Al-Duhail manager (BBC)

Former Paris St-Germain boss Christophe Galtier has taken over from Hernan Crespo as manager of Qatari side Al-Duhail.

Galtier, 57, won Ligue 1 with PSG last season but was replaced by former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique in July.

The Frenchman is due to stand trial in December, following an investigation into alleged racism while in his previous post as manager of Nice.

Russian Olympic Committee suspended by International Olympic Committee’s executive board (Sky)

The Russian Olympic Committee was suspended by the IOC on Thursday for breaching the Olympic Charter by incorporating sports bodies in four regions in eastern Ukraine.

The IOC said in a statement that the ROC’s suspension related to its unilateral decision on October 5 to include as members regional sports organisations which are under the authority of the Ukrainian Olympic Committee.

The IOC added: “The IOC reserves the right to decide about the participation of individual neutral athletes with a Russian passport in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 and the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 at the appropriate time.” Read more
