A 45-year-old businesswoman, Ebere Ugwu, was on Wednesday docked in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly attacking and wounding her husband with a bottle.
The police charged Ugwu who resides at Ago palace way, Okota, Lagos with assault and causing grievous hurt.
The Prosecution Counsel, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 24, at Ago palace way, Okota, Lagos.
She alleged that the defendant at about 5:30 pm punched her husband Ogugua in the eye.
The police also said that the defendant used a broken bottle on her husband, inflicting wounds on his right hand.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 173 and 246 of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Under the provisions of Section 246, a convict is liable to three years imprisonment.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Ejiro Kubeinje admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 and two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must have proof of tax payments with verified addresses while one of the sureties must be a blood relation.
Kubeinje adjourned the case until June 6 for definite hearing. (NAN)
