Court remands butcher for allegedly defiling his 14-year-old stepdaughter (Vanguard)

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Yaba, Lagos, on Wednesday ordered that a 40-year-old butcher, Tunji Adeniran, who allegedly defiled his 14-year-old stepdaughter, be remanded in a custodial centre.

The police charged Adeniran with defilement.

Chief Magistrate, P.E. Nwaka, did not take the plea of Adeniran for want in jurisdiction.

Nwaka ordered that Adeniran be remanded in the Ikoyi Custodial Centre, Lagos State, pending legal advice from the State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Nwaka adjourned the case until February 18. Read more

Man in police net for allegedly beating wife to death (Nation)

Detectives attached to the Lagos Police Command have arrested a man, David Idibie, for allegedly beating his wife, Juliana, 42, to death in Ajah.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night at their Joado Street, Oke Ira Nla residence.

It was gathered that the deceased had picked a fight with her husband on grounds that he no longer ate at home.

Sources told The Nation that she accused her husband of having a lover in whose place he usually ate since he no longer ate at home. Read more

Lagos hotelier, wife jailed 40 years over spiritual cleansing fraud

The owner of Victoria East Park Hotel and Suite, Igbogbo, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, Fredrick Ebiesuwa, and his wife, Tinuola Oyegunle, have been sentenced to 40 years’ imprisonment over a fraud of N53,713,260.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the couple and other suspects at large defrauded one Dunni Olateru-Olagbegi of the said sum under the guise of helping her to avert mysterious death.

It was gathered that the victim, sometime in May 2013, boarded a cab with the fraudsters and upon entering the cab, the gang started arguing about a bag filled with dollars.

Our correspondent learnt that minutes after the syndicate argued about the bag, one of them told the victim that she would have to undergo cleansing to avert mysterious death after listening to their conversation. Read more

Police arrest eight suspected traffic robbers in Lagos, recover weapons (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested eight suspected traffic robbers in the Ketu area of the state.

Five of the suspects were arrested on February 11 at 10:30pm by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad led by Olayinka Egbeyemi while the other three suspects were caught in the act by RRS patrol team on February 12 around 6am.

In a statement on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, gave the details of the suspects as: Olawuyi Olayinka, m, 27; Mayowa Adeleke, m, 17; Fa’izu Ado, m, 25; Segun Oluwatoyin, m, 27; Haruna Shuaibu, m, 29; Amos Abayomi, m 24; Monday Obayemi, m, 25; and Okunlola Olawale, m, 21.

The statement partly read, “One of the suspects, Amos Abayomi, who was arrested with a machete in between traffic in the morning of Friday, 12th February, 2021, in Ketu, Lagos, disclosed that he use to rob in traffic with a syndicate of other hoodlums especially in the morning and at night. Lagos CP orders probe of molested #OccupyLekki protesters (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has condemned the inhumane act levelled against some individuals arrested during the protest at the Lekki tollgate area of the state on Saturday.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Sunday that the office-in-charge of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, DCP Adegoke Fayoade, had been ordered to analyse a trending video showing the arrested suspects being subjected to dehumanising conditions.

He stated that the persons responsible for the act would be brought to book.

Adejobi said, “The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to a viral video where some arrested “Endsars protesters” were being molested in a bus by some individuals after their arrest. Read more

Lagos trader bathes apprentice in acid, victim detained for three months (Punch)

An apprentice, identified simply as Ifeanyi, is in pain after his boss, identified simply as Anaayo, allegedly bathed him in acid and detained him for over three months without treatment at their place of residence in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Anaayo, who owns Ayocity Surgicals, was taking stock of his goods at his shop in the Idumota area of the state sometime in November 2020 when he discovered that some items were missing.

Angered by the discovery, Anaayo allegedly summoned his apprentices, including Ifeanyi, and demanded an explanation for the missing goods.

It was learnt that when Ifeanyi and his co-apprentices, including the managers, could not give a satisfactory explanation for the missing goods, Anaayo was said to have told them that they would continue the discussion when they got home. Read more

Mr Macaroni: Police stripped us naked, told us we’d have been killed if we protested at night (DailyTrust)

A Nigerian comedian, Debo Adebayo popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has revealed how policemen told him and other arrested protesters that they would have killed them if Saturday’s demonstration took place at night.

Mr Macaroni was arrested alongside 39 other #OccupyLekkiTollGate protesters in the early hours of Saturday over their involvement in the protest.

They were however, later granted bail on the sum of N100,000 each.

In a video shared on his Twitter page, he narrated how he and other arrested protesters were harassed by security operatives. Read more

Lagos police arrest 4 OPC members for alleged murder (Guardian)

The Bariga Police Division of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested four members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) for allegedly beating up and stabbing one Tochukwu Chidi to death.

This was contained in a statement signed on Sunday by the Lagos State Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

Adejobi said that the suspects were Sunday Onilede, m, 35, Azan Razak, m, 35, Abdullahi Ibrahim, m, 29, and Fatai Taiwo, m, 40.

The police spokesperson said that the suspects attacked Chidi, m, 35, of No. 76, Arobadede St., Bariga, and in the process inflicted injuries on him after an argument at Temple St., Bariga, Lagos, on Saturday.“He was rushed to the General Hospital, Bariga, for treatment where he was confirmed dead,” Adejobi said in the statement.
