Car dealer gets fake alert, customer absconds during test drive (Punch)
A car dealer, Olatubosun Gafar, has become distressed after a customer, Segun Opeyemi, sent him a fake alert of N6.2m and absconded with one of his cars, in the Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Opeyemi walked into Gafar’s office last Wednesday and told him that he was interested in buying a Toyota Camry 2014 model Spyder, parked in the compound.
According to the 39-year-old, Opeyemi returned on Thursday morning, made payment for the car and also sent the receipt to him on WhatsApp messenger. Read more
Ikotun daylight robbery: 25-year-old shot in the eye (Vanguard)
The parent of Opeyemi Ogunrin, a 25-year-old resident of Ikotun, who was shot during a daylight robbery, has lamented the financial cost of his son’s eye operation.
Vanguard gathered that Opeyemi was attacked by armed robbers, resulting in a gunshot wound to one of his eyes. He was rushed to a hospital where the eye was operated on.
Speaking to Vanguard, Opeyemi’s father, Mr. Ogunrin Oluwole, explained: “He works at a Betnaija shop, and the thieves struck during daylight, firing shots indiscriminately. Unfortunately, my son was one of the victims, with the bullet hitting his left eye. He is currently receiving treatment at Dayspring Specialist Hospital, Ikotun.” Read more
IGP restricts movement in Bayelsa, Imo, Kogi on election day (Channels)
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states during governorship elections scheduled to hold on November 11, 2023.
Addressing a news conference in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the restriction would be effective from 12:01am to 6pm on Saturday in the three states.
Adejobi, however, added that those on essential services are exempted from the restriction on election day. Read more
Certificate racketeering: Lagos Assembly probes LASU (Punch)
The Lagos State House of Assembly says it will invite the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr Tolani Akibu, the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Senate of the tertiary institution and other top staff over allegations of extortion and certificate racketeering levelled against the school recently.
The invitation was in connection with a news report published on Monday by an online news platform.
The story revealed that a certificate racketeering syndicate had genuine Lagos State University certificates that anyone interested could purchase for between N2m and N3m, depending on the technicality of the course involved. Read more
Tinubu appoints three Executive Commissioners for NUPRC (Tribune)
President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of three new Executive Commissioners to serve in the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
Also approved is the redeployment of one current Executive Commissioner, pending their confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.

Appeal Court sacks PDP Senator, declares Lalong winner (DailyTrust)
The Appeal court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, affirmed the victory of the minister of Labour and Employment and former governor of Plateau State, Barrister Simon Bako Lalong, as senator representing Plateau South senatorial district.
Lalong contested the election on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The Appeal court however dismissed the petition filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Napoleon Bali, for lack of merit. Read more

In order to reduce the growing unemployment of youths in Edo State, the Omo N’ Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin has pledged a parcel of land for a skill acquisition centre.
Oba Ewuare made the pledge in response to a request by the Prelate of the Presbyterian Church, His Eminence, Dr. Ekpeyong Akpanika’s courtesy visit to his palace in Benin City.

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on Tuesday urged Nigerians to disregard messages on free registration of business names and companies.
The Nigerian Companies Registry issued this warning in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) and said such messages would never come from them.
“Please, disregard any SMS or WhatsApp message asking you to enroll for free CAC registration, as it is not from us! Thank you,” CAC posted. Read more

Mali: Airstrikes kill several civilians (AfricaNews)
Several civilians, including children, were killed Tuesday in strikes attributed to the Malian army in Kidal, a possible foreshadowing of the battle to come for this bastion of the Tuareg rebellion and a major sovereignty issue for the central state.
The Permanent Strategic Framework (CSP), an alliance of predominantly Tuareg armed groups, reported in a press release 14 deaths, including eight children gathered in front of a school and six notables, killed according to the CSP by Turkish-made drones from the Malian army.
Residents and witnesses, speaking mostly on condition of anonymity for their safety, spoke of six, seven or nine deaths, without having an overview of each of them. Read more

The popular video game “The Legend of Zelda” is coming to life in a new live-action movie.
“I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now,” famed Nintendo video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto wrote on the gaming company’s X (formerly Twitter) page Tuesday.
“We have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it,” he also wrote.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy late Monday ruled out holding a presidential vote in the spring and urged his countrymen to avoid political divides, saying they must concentrate all resources on fighting Russia.
Zelenskyy’s comments in a video address follow increasing discussions about the possibility of a presidential election in March. Zelenskyy, who was elected for a five-year term in March 2019, had previously avoided definitive statements on the question. His associates had said he was pondering various possibilities.
“Now, in wartime, when there are so many challenges, it is absolutely irresponsible to throw the topic of elections into society in a lighthearted and playful way,” Zelenskyy said, adding that ”the waves of any politically divisive things must stop.” Read more

A woman believes her father might still be alive if Air Canada diverted a 16-hour flight the pair was on when the elderly man started suffering a medical emergency.
Shanu Pande said she should have “banged on the cockpit,” to demand the flight crew to land the plane going from India to Canada when her 83-year-old father started having chest and back pain, vomiting and uncontrolled bowel movements, according to CBC.
“He was deteriorating in front of my eyes,” Pande said of her dad Harish Pant, who was flying to Canada after achieving permanent residency. Read more

A man depicted on the album cover of Led Zeppelin IV has been revealed as a 19th Century thatcher.
The figure is most likely Lot Long from Mere in Wiltshire, photographed by Ernest Farmer.
Brian Edwards, from the University of the West of England (UWE), found the original picture when looking through a photograph album for other research.
“I instantly recognised the man with the sticks – he’s often called the stick man,” he said. Read more

After more than two weeks of intensive training in Abuja, the Head Coach of Nigeria’s U-20 girls, Christopher Musa Danjuma, has selected two new Super Falcons players, Comfort Folorunsho, Opeyemi Ajakaye and 17 others for next Sunday’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup second round, first leg qualifying match against their Tanzanian counterparts.

The Napoli striker picked up a hamstring injury during Nigeria’s 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia in October and has not played for Napoli since scoring against Fiorentina on October 8. Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Nuno Espirito Santo has been sacked as manager of Al-Ittihad.
The Portuguese boss was appointed by the Saudi Pro League giants in the summer of 2022. He departs the club off the back of a 2-0 defeat to Iraqi side Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya in the Asian Champions League.

Powerlifter says she faces 2-year ban for speaking out on “unfairness of biological males’ in competitions” (Fox)
Powerlifter April Hutchinson said Tuesday she faces a multi-year ban from the Canadian Powerlifting Union for speaking out about the organization’s transgender inclusion policies.
Hutchinson posted a notice seemingly from the Canadian Powerlifting Union addressing a complaint against her from August. The topic concerned Hutchinson’s “conduct on social media.” A discipline panel appeared to recommend that Hutchinson have her membership in the union suspended for two years.
The memo read that the panel’s recommendation should be brought to the organization’s insurance provider and law firm. Read more
