Cashier docked over alleged N244k theft

A 20-year-old cashier, Chigozie Mba, on Tuesday appeared before a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos accused stealing N244,000 belonging to his employer.

Mba, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing preferred against him.

The prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Adeosun told the court that the defendant committed the offence between March 27 and May 2, at about 8:30 p.m. at Abule Ado Area of Lagos.

Adeosun said the defendant allegedly stole the sum of N244,000 at the shop of his employer, one Okafor Okwuchukwu, the complainant.

“The offence committed is punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,’’ he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years’ jail term for stealing.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Fadahunsi Adefioye granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.Adefioye adjourned the case until June, for mention. (NAN)
