Cesc Fabregas singles out Billy Gilmour after Chelsea’s Carabao Cup win against Grimsby Town (Metro)

Cesc Fabregas has praised Billy Gilmour for his ‘amazing’ performance in Chelsea’s 7-1 win over Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

Frank Lampard’s side comfortably beat their League Two opponents at Stamford Bridge with two goals from Michy Batshuayi, while Ross Barkley, Pedro, Kurt Zouma, Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi also found the net.

Gilmour, meanwhile, completed a full 90 minutes alongside Barkley in central midfield and impressed in his first senior start for Chelsea.

The 18-year-old has used clips of Fabregas to help develop his own game and the Spaniard, who left Chelsea to join Monaco in January, believes the Scotland Under-21 international has the mentality to succeed at Stamford Bridge. Read more
