A 26-year-old chartered accountant, Ms. Lateefat Adewura Belo, appears to have simply disappeared into thin air while returning from office.

Lateefat was said to have gone missing on May 15 while returning from her office at Ikeja and heading home to Gowon Estate, Egbeda.

Although nobody is sure of what happened to Lateefat, her family, however, believed that she had been abducted. Read more

Again, EFCC arrests eight suspected fraudsters in Lagos (Independent)

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Lagos Zonal office, has arrested eight suspected fraudsters for an alleged involvement in internet crime.

Tony Orilade, Acting Head, Media and Publicity,EFCC, said the suspects are: Adesanmi Abiodun, Olasupo Emmanuel, Segun Amudah, Aina Oladipo and Babatunde Olawuyi.

Others are: Oluwaseyi Emmanuel Fagbemiro, Felix Onyebuchi and Abdulazeez Ismaila. Read more

MPC directs CBN to restrict banks access to bonds, treasury bills (Nation)

Banks’ access to government securities is to be restricted, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele said yesterday.

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), said the CBN boss, directed the apex bank to initiate policies or regulations that will facilitate the restriction.

Air travel records 18m passengers, 11 per cent traffic surge (Guardian)

The aviation industry has recorded an upsurge in passenger traffic, with no fewer than 18 million passengers now travelling the Nigerian airspace in a year.

The surge, compared with the 2017 figures, represents about 11 per cent increase in passenger traffic.

Similarly, the marginal growth trend continued in the first quarter (Q1) of 2019, with no fewer than 3.5 million passengers travelling through the airports.The Q1 report released by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), showed an increase of 76,397 passengers and 2.23 per cent growth compared to the 3.43 million passengers recorded in the first quarter of 2018. Regulate price of flour, say bakers (Nation)

The Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria has called on the Federal Government to stop the planned increment in the price of flour.

A statement by its National Secretary, Jude Okafor, noted that the price of a 50kg bag of flour should not cost more than N8,500 as against the current price of N10,500.

The statement reads: “As partners in business, 90 per cent of our members are heavily indebted and produce at a loss because they are not allowed to cut standards to break through.” Read more

FIRS will exceed N5.32t revenue collection in 2019, says Fowler (Nation)

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) yesterday promised to surpass in 2019 the N5.32 trillion it made last year.

The N5.32 trillion remains its highest yearly collection so far.

In a paper titled: “The imperatives of regulatory processes, procedures and compliance in the Nigerian business sector” presented at a forum organised by the Nigerian-German Business Association in collaboration with The Nation in Lagos, FIRS Chairman Babatunde Fowler said the agency realised N1.6 trillion between January and March. Jokha Alharthi, the first female Omani novelist to be translated into English, has won the Man Booker International prize for her novel Celestial Bodies.
