Chelsea boss Frank Lampard praises Tammy Abraham’s character after suffering racist abuse (Metro)

Frank Lampard has slammed the racist abuse Tammy Abraham received after missing the decisive spot-kick in Chelsea’s Super Cup defeat to Liverpool.

The striker came on as a substitute and stepped up to take the fifth penalty, but his effort was saved by goalkeeper Adrian and Abraham was subsequently targeted with racist abuse on social media from Chelsea fans.

The club condemned the posts, promising the ‘strongest possible action’, and Lampard echoed that sentiment while backing Abraham to come out of the situation even stronger.

‘I’ve spoken with Tammy and he is a strong character. I love his character, he’s infectious around the place,’ said Lampard at Friday’s pre-match press conference before facing Leicester City on Sunday. Read more
