Chelsea have confirmed that Olivier Giroud has signed a one-year deal with the club which will extend his stay until the end of the 2019-20 season.

The 32-year-old was out of contract this summer and had been linked with a return to France, with Lyon, Bordeaux, Marseille and Nice all rumoured to be interested.

However, Chelsea have persuaded Giroud to stay put and activated an optional one-year extension that was inserted into the contract he signed when joining from Arsenal in January 2018.

Speaking about his new deal, Giroud said: ‘I am very happy to sign a new contract. I really wanted to stay at least one more year – I have felt a part of the team, the family, since the beginning and hopefully there will be more trophies to come.’ Read more
