The Nigerian Army announced on Friday that it would launch a four-month operation in Borno State, tagged Operation Last Hold, to clear the Boko Haram terrorists in the Lake Chad region and to ensure the rescue of the remaining hostages of the insurgents.
The army’s Chief of Training and Operations, Maj. Gen. David Ahmadu, stated this at a briefing in Abuja, noting that the operation would begin on May 1 and end on August 31, particularly in the northern Borno area. When asked whether the rescue of the remaining Chibok schoolgirls would be given a top priority in the rescue of hostages, the army chief was silent on the schoolgirls’ rescue, but noted that the operation would ensure “the total defeat of the Boko Haram terrorists’ sect” as well as facilitate the relocation of Internally Displaced Persons from the camps to their communities.
