Chidimma Adetshina wins Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 crown

Chidimma Adetshina, a former Miss South Africa finalist, has emerged victorious among 25 contestants at the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant. The grand finale, held on Saturday at Lagos’ Eko Hotel and Suites, saw Adetshina crowned as the new Miss Universe Nigeria, marking a remarkable chapter in her pageant journey.

Adetshina’s path to the crown was anything but conventional. Initially slated to compete as Miss South Africa, she withdrew from that competition amid xenophobic attacks and questions about her nationality. In an unexpected turn, the Miss Universe Nigeria organisers extended an invitation to Adetshina, which she accepted. She entered the competition at the 11th hour, representing Taraba State as contestant number 25.

The fiercely contested event saw a diverse array of beauties vying for the crown. The top five finalists included Paula Ezendu (Miss Anambra), Edeifo Brittany (Miss Edo), Ayegbidun Peace Olamide (Miss Ondo), Nyekachi Douglas (Miss Rivers) and Adetshina (Miss Taraba).

As the tension mounted, the judges made their final decisions. Miss Ondo was awarded the title of Miss Lush, while Miss Anambra secured the first runner-up position and was crowned Miss Supranational Nigeria. However, it was Adetshina who ultimately claimed the coveted Miss Universe Nigeria title.

In her acceptance speech, Adetshina emphasised the deeper significance of her win, stating, “This crown is not just about beauty; it’s a call for unity.”

Adetshina’s triumph marks the beginning of a new challenge as she prepares to represent Nigeria on the global stage at the upcoming Miss Universe 2024 pageant. Her unique background and the circumstances surrounding her win are likely to make her a contestant to watch in the international competition.
