Christmas: Sanwo-Olu tasks Lagos residents on peaceful, moderate celebrations

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has charged residents of the state to celebrate Christmas with moderation, saying that “the season is for us to also reflect and ensure that as the New Year comes in, it’s for better and bigger things to happen.”

Sanwo-Olu, who passed the message across to the residents during the official commissioning of the newly constructed Ishefun-Camp Davies-Ijon Road Network and Jetty Terminal in Alimosho, Lagos, on Friday, said: “I want to wish all the residents and people of Lagos State a very merry Christmas in advance, a very peaceful holiday season and a prosperous New Year in advance.”

Sanwo-Olu, who assured residents that the government and people of the state would continue to be law-abiding, as well as continue to live in peace and harmony with one another, even in the Yuletide season, said: “Let us celebrate with moderation and know that the season is for us to also reflect and ensure that as the New Year comes in, it’s for better and bigger things to happen.

“You can see it has been a year of several things for us, it’s been a year of prosperity for us. It’s been a year in which indeed we have broken all things that hindered us before now and you can see our THEMES Agenda this year has touched all our plans. I cannot begin to roll them out here today.”

While charging Lagos residents to perform their civic duty by getting their PVCs ready for next year elections, the governor said: “Next year is also very important because it’s the year of our general elections and the National Population Census.

“So we all have to be on the same page. We need to know that we have a responsibility as citizens to perform our civic roles in all of the activities and to ensure that all assets of the government are preserved and used very well.

“That’s an example of what we done here today. We have handed over a jetty, we handed over route to the community with street lights, and walkway with drainage services.”

Charging residents of the state of take ownership of government’s property within their domains, Sanwo-Olu said: “People must continue to ensure that they protect and use the infrastructure well so that generations coming behind them can also will enjoy the dividends of democracy.” (Independent)
