Robbers break into judge’s home, steal $1,000, others (Punch)
The police on Tuesday arraigned two alleged serial armed robbers, who on February 22, 2020, broke into the Ikoyi home of a Lagos judge, carting away $1,000, N250,000, four wristwatches, a 50-inch LG television, two shirts and two pairs of shoes.
The accused, Friday Eze and Anuoluwa Adeware – alongside their alleged accomplices, Rasaq Bolaji and Beatrice Elom, were arraigned on 15 counts before the Federal High Court in Lagos.
According to the charge by the police, Eze and Adewale, alongside one Monday Uvi and others still at large, invaded the judge’s home armed with a berretta pistol, a cutlass and a cudgel and dispossessed him of his belongings. Read more
Woman unleashes dogs on tricyclist over N3,500 (Vanguard)
A tricyclist, Mohammed Abdulhammed, escaped death by the whiskers after he was attacked by two dogs released by their owner, over failure to remit N3,500 to the coordinator of tricycles in Igando area of Lagos State.
Trouble started for the 33-year-old tricycle operator, Monday, when he was intercepted by the coordinator, Mojisola Awe, at Santa Maria Street, off Isuti road in Egan, Igando as he was accused of failing to remit previous day’s payment to Awe.
A verbal confrontation, which degenerated into a brawl between the operator, the coordinator, and her two sons, occurred and in the process, one of the coordinator’s sons was alleged to have unleashed their dogs on the helpless tricyclist. Read more
Two men bag 42 years jail term for robbery (Vanguard)
Justice Adedayo Akintoye of an Igbosere High Court in Lagos on Monday sentenced two men, Kingsley Baba and Bashiru Musa to 21 years in prison each, for robbery.
The duo were charged by the Lagos State Government on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and armed robbery.
Delivering judgment during the virtual court proceedings, the judge found the defendants guilty as charged.
Justice Akintoye said that the evidences given by three prosecution witnesses established that a robbery was actually committed on Dec. 8, 2015.

Alleged armed robbery: Nine years later court discharges five men for lack of evidence (Vanguard)
An Ikeja High Court on Monday discharged five men who have been incarcerated in the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre for nine-years for armed robbery due to lack of evidence.
Delivering judgment, Justice Adenike Coker, discharged Ramon Ganiyu, Alex Azubuike, Yusuf Maboreje, Sanya Adetunji and Akeem Akintoye of the 15-count charge filed against them by the state.
Freeing the defendants, the judge noted that the office of the Lagos Sate Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) had issued a Notice of Discontinuance due to non-viability of the case.
“By the powers conferred by the Honourable Attorney-General pursuant to Section 71(1)(2) and (3) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law and vide his letter to this court dated May 18, 2020, he has directed that the prosecution discontinue the proceedings herein against these defendants. Lagos woman allegedly assaulted by expatriate lovers cries for help (Punch)
A mother of two, Victoria Marcus, who was allegedly assaulted by her German neighbour, Knoop Jens, has called on the federal and Lagos State governments to come to her aid as her life is no longer safe.
It was gathered that Jens and his lover, Ehehiye Marayah, had on December 16, 2018, attacked Marcus and stabbed her in her left palm after she complained about a contribution in their estate in the Apapa area of the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt that after Victoria reported the incident at the Trinity Police Station, the lovers were charged but the matter was stalled due to the lockdown imposed on the state by the Federal Government as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 44-year-old Victoria alleged that despite the fact that the matter was in court, the couple had continued to verbally and physically attack her. Read more
Sexagenarian arrested for defiling minor in Lagos (Punch)
A sexagenarian, Usein Ali, has been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly defiling a minor in the Ijora Badia area of the state.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim, who was sent on an errand, did not return home on time and when she eventually did, her relative began questioning her to know the reason for her lateness.
While being questioned, it was learnt that the victim explained that Ali allegedly waylaid her, took her into a room and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her. Read more
Music artiste, pianist arrested for robbery in Lagos (Guardian)
Two entertainers, a musician and a pianist have been arrested by the Rapid Response Squad unit of the Lagos Police Command for robbery.
The police in a statement said the duo confessed that they were forced into the robbery by the need to survive the hunger caused by the COVID-19 lockdown.
The suspects – Chinonso Michael, 25 years, an Afro-pop singer and Chimelu Victory, 22 years, a pianist – were arrested last week Wednesday in the company of 5 other suspects at their residence at 4, Modupe Young Thomas Estate, Ajah, Lagos by the Decoy Team of RRS. Read more
Police quiz three cops over brutalised Lagos woman (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command is investigating three of its men–a corporal and two constables–over a video showing residents in the Ajegunle area protesting after a woman was allegedly hit in the mouth by the cops.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Bala Elkana, confirmed to our correspondent that the Area B Command, Apapa, had been asked to investigate and submit a report to the state command over the incident.
The video obtained by our correspondent on Thursday showed about five residents dragging with the policemen, attached to the Tolu Police Division, for carrying out “arbitrary arrest,” of an Egypt-based footballer in the area.
Our correspondent learnt that the policemen–a corporal and two constables–are identified by nicknames, Ade, Tompolo and Walter. Read more
Labourers arrested for allegedly poisoning co-worker’s drink (Punch)
The police in Lagos have arrested four labourers in connection with the death of their co-worker, Godwin Udoh, who died of poison.
The suspects, identified simply as Moses, Lekan, Clement and Kehinde, allegedly replaced the content of a bitter drink Udoh was taking with a chemical which he unknowingly drank.
Until his death, Udoh lived on Taiye Olorunfunmi Street, along Idimu-Ejigbo Road, Lagos.
City Round learnt that they invited the 25-year-old Udoh to do a clean-up work at a newly rented apartment on a neighbouring street. Read more
Two sentenced to death for armed robbery (Punch)
Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye of the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere has sentenced two men, Williams Udoh and Ubong Isaiah, to death for armed robbery.
The court also sentenced Isaiah to additional 21 years’ imprisonment for raping a married woman during the robbery operation.
The convicts were arraigned on July 13, 2017, on amended five counts bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery and rape.
The prosecution had told the court that the convicts and others at large committed the offences on August 2, 2015, at the Shepherd Estate, Daramola Street, Ijegun, and No. 8 Ologun Ijegun Street, Ijegun, Lagos. Read more
Woman arrested for aiding son’s escape after raping 9-year-old girl (Tribune)
The police command in Lagos State has arrested a woman, who aided her son’s escape, after he raped a 9-year- old primary 4 pupil in the Epe area of the state.
The woman, a resident of Sade Street prevented her son from being arrested by youths of the area and community leaders, who wanted to arrest him.
Tribune Online gathered that the runaway suspect reportedly defiled the primary school pupil on Wednesday.
The mother of the victim of the rape incident raised the alarm, which attracted residents to Sade Street in Epe. Read more
Rapist get 21 years imprisonment as court sentences robbers to death (Guardian)
Lagos State High Court, Igbosere on Wednesday sentenced two men, Williams Umoh Udoh and Ubong Lazarus Isaiah, to death for armed robbery in Lagos.
The court sentenced Ubong Isaiah to death for armed robbery while Williams Udoh was sentenced to a separate 21 years imprisonment for rape at the scene of the crime.
The two robbers were earlier arraigned by the Lagos State Government on an amended five-count charge in June 2017. Read more
