4 Lagos ex-convicts nabbed for kidnapping, robbery (Punch)

The Lagos State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Yaba has ordered the remand of four ex-convicts at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for alleged armed robbery, impersonation and kidnapping.

The defendants, Rasaq Oyinlola, Olushola Adepetu, Moruf Yusuf, and Isreal Emenoge, were on Friday arraigned before Magistrate O. Y. Adefope on seven counts of conspiracy, armed rob¬bery, impersonation and kidnapping.

They were arrested by policemen attached to the Shagamu Road Police Division for kidnapping three persons, stealing a Lexus saloon car, and one of them, impersonating a General in the Nigerian Army. Read more

Whitney: Coroner okays Chrisland’s independent autopsy (Punch)

The parents of a 12-year-old pupil of Chrisland International School Limited, Whitney Adeniran, who died on February 9, 2023, during the school’s inter-house sports activities at the Agege Sports Stadium, will testify before a Coroner’s Inquest at the Ogba Magistrate’s Court on April 17.

The Coroner Magistrate, Olabisi Fajana, disclosed this on Tuesday when she ruled on the application of the school seeking samples and materials to carry out an independent evaluation of the autopsy report conducted by the Lagos State Government.

This is just as the coroner granted the school’s request to consult an independent pathologist in the bid to ascertain the true cause of the pupil’s death. Read more

Man defiles teenage neighbour’s 9-month-old baby (Punch)

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday, remanded a 27-year-old street urchin, Adebayo Agboola, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a nine-month-old baby belonging to a neighbour.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the Chief Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, directed the prosecutor to send the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

She adjourned the case till May 5. 

Agboola, who resides in the Ijora-Badia area of Lagos was charged with defilement. Read more

Absence of Lagos bishop accused of raping pastor stalls arraignment (Punch)

The planned arraignment of the Founder of I Reign Christian Ministry, Bishop Oluwafeyiropo Daniel, for alleged rape was stalled on Monday after he failed to show up in court.

The matter, which was listed as number four on the case list of the judiciary, came up before Justice Ramon Oshodi of the Lagos State Special Offences Court, Ikeja.

The police prosecutor, Mrs Inumidun Solarin, however, informed the court that the defendant was not around. Read more

Raheem: Vandi considers appeal as court dismisses no-case submission (Punch)

A Lagos State High Court sitting in Tafawa Balewa Square, on Monday ordered a suspended Assistant Superintendent of Police, Drambi Vandi, who allegedly killed a Lagos-based lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem, on Christmas Day in 2022, to open his case.

Justice Ibironke Harrison made the order after dismissing Vandi’s “no case submission.”

The court held that there was a ‘prima facie’ case made against him and therefore ordered him to open his defence. Read more

Hoodlums steal N30m goods from Lagos shop, couple tackles guards (Punch)

A media consultant, Omokioja Eto, and his wife, Helen, have accused the guards securing the Ikota Shopping Complex of aiding armed robbery suspects who burgled and stole goods valued at N30m at their shop at the complex in the Ajah area of Lekki, Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that after business owners plying their trades in the complex closed business transactions, they locked their shops, and left their property in the care of the guards employed to secure the complex.

Things, however, took another turn when armed robbers, during an operation on March 7, 2023, broke into the couple’s shop and stole property, including mobile phones worth N30m. Read more

Police in Lagos confirm knock down of 12-year old girl (Guardian)

The Police Command in Lagos State has confirmed that a 12-year-old girl, identified as Kope Mary, was knocked down by a vehicle, whose driver alleged he lost control of the car.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.

Hundeyin said that the incident happened on Monday at about 6.40 p.m., along Olubunmi Junction by Mashalashi Street, Iwaya Area. Read more

Immigration officer docked in Lagos court over alleged assault (Guardian)

An immigration officer, Umar Mohammed, was Tuesday, docked before a Lagos State High Court sitting in Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), over alleged assault.

Mohammed was docked before Justice Sherifat Sonaike on a two-count charge, but he could not take his plea.

His counsel, Ms. O.F Osineye, had prayed the court not to take the defendant’s plea, on the ground that she was not served with the proof of evidence, as well as the charge against her client. Read more

Customs intercepts N23.02b expired drugs, Tramadol in Lagos (Leadership)

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tuesday, said it intercepted fake, expired and banned Tramadol drugs at the Lagos seaports and warehouses worth N23.02 billion in three months.

The seized tramadol and expired pharmaceutical drugs which were intercepted by the Apapa command and the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), zone A of the service were imported from India.

While the Apapa command intercepted the fake drugs worth N21.6 billion, the drugs intercepted by the FOU zone A unit intercepted drugs worth N1.42 billion. Read more

Court orders forfeiture of property, N725m linked to ex-NIMASA boss (Leadership)

The Federal High Court, Lagos has granted an order of interim forfeiture of the sum of N725 million and a property located in the Banana Island area of Ikoyi allegedly diverted from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

Both are to be temporarily forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Justice Tijjani Ringim gave the order following an exparte application filed and argued by Bilkisu Buhari, a counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Read more

Again, Lagos re-arraigns Evans for kidnapping, attempted murder (Leadership)

The Lagos State government, on Thursday, re-arraigned convicted billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, before a State High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square for alleged kidnapping and attempted murder.

Evans was arraigned alongside Joseph Emeka, Victor Aduba and Okapara Linus before Justice Ibironke Harrison on a five-count charge of conspiracy, kidnapping, and attempted murder.

The state re-arraigned the defendants following the transfer of the former trial judge, Justice Adedayo Akintoye, to another division of the court. Read more

Okada riders ‘‘kill’’ policeman in Lagos (Nation)

A policeman was Wednesday afternoon killed by irate commercial motorcyclists and three service rifles carted away after a face-off between the police and errant riders.

The incident occurred at Cele Bus Stop along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos when some policemen enforcing the ban of commercial cyclists on the expressway were challenged by the riders.

Shortly after the officer was said to have been murdered, the Okada riders numbering about 100 fled towards Mile 2. Read more
