Coronavirus deaths in Nigeria race past 700, as 664 more are infected

At least 724 people have died of complications related to COVID-19 in Nigeria, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said.

Announcing the new numbers in a Saturday night update via tweet, the agency said that 664 more infections were recorded in the country, bringing the number of confirmed cases to 31,987. 

The number of those so far discharged after testing negative to the virus is now 13,103.

As has been the custom in a while, Lagos again recorded the highest number with 224 cases, followed by FCT-105, Edo-85, Ondo-64, Kaduna-32, Imo-27, Osun-19, Plateau-17, Oyo-17, Ogun-17, Rivers-14, Delta-11 and Adamawa-10.

Others are: Enugu-7, Nassarawa-6, Gombe-3, Abia-3 and Ekiti-3.

As of July 10, the confirmed coronavirus death toll in Africa stood at 12,474.There are 543,136 confirmed infections and 265,810 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

More than 12.6 million people around the world have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and more than 562,000 have died, according to a tally by the Johns Hopkins University. More than 6.96 million patients have recovered.
