Coronavirus: Nigeria’s case numbers decline further, reports 288 infections across country

On a day when Latin America reportedly broke through five million confirmed cases of COVID-19, with death toll of over 200,000 and the World Health Organisation’s Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said there might never be a “silver bullet” for the new coronavirus, Nigeria’s outbreak recorded a further decline in case numbers with 288 new cases reported Monday by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The numbers are down from 304 just the previous day.

Nigeria’s confirmed coronavirus infections however rose to 44,129

The NCDC, which made the announcement via its twitter handle, also announced 896 as the total number of deaths from the virus in the country, putting the number of recoveries at 20,663.

As of August 3, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on the African continent stood at 19,983, while there are 945,882 confirmed infections and 603,687 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

More than 18.17 million people around the world have been diagnosed with the new coronavirus as of Monday. More than 10.8 million have recovered, and more than 691,000 have died.
