Spurs beat Aston Villa 4-0 and take advantage of losses for Arsenal, Manchester United to claim fourth spot (ABC)

It was a Premier League day that could hardly have gone any better for Tottenham Hotspur.

With its 4-0 win at Aston Villa — inspired by Son Heung-min’s hat trick — and losses for both Arsenal and Manchester United on Saturday, Spurs became favourite to claim the fourth and final Champions League qualification spot.

Antonio Conte’s team is hitting form just as its rivals are imploding and now has a three-point cushion in fourth place over Arsenal, which slumped 2-1 at home to Brighton for a third loss in fourth games.

As for United, a 1-0 loss to an Everton team that had been in freefall constituted another low in what has turned into a desperate season. One, remarkably, that could yet end without qualification for European competition. Read more

Kylian Mbappe and Neymar both score hat tricks in PSG’s lopsided victory (CBS)

Paris Saint-Germain obliterated Clermont Foot 63 on Saturday with a 6-1 thumping in Ligue 1 which opened a 15-point gap at the summit thanks to Kylian Mbappe and Neymar both recording hat tricks, as well as a treble of assists from Lionel Messi. The Brazilian started and finished the scoring while also adding a penalty, and the Frenchman had two of his goals laid on by the Argentine and another by Neymar as Les Parisiens’ star trio clicked at Stade Gabriel Montpied.

It took just six minutes for Mauricio Pochettino’s men to open the scoring with Neymar on target from a Messi assist, and he was at it again after 19 minutes when he teed up Mbappe to create an early cushion.

Jodel Dossou got hosts Clermont back into it just before half time, and Pascal Gastien’s men kept PSG within reach until the final 20 minutes when things blew apart with four reasonably quickfire goals to ensure that the capital outfit ran away with the result.

Neymar got his second from the spot with 19 minutes to go before Mbappe added his second from the Brazilian’s assist and completed his hat-trick thanks to Messi within six minutes of each other before providing for Neymar to complete the scoring. Read more

Shane Mosley Jr. defeats Gabriel Rosado by majority decision (BoxingScene)

Gabriel Rosado and Shane Mosley Jr. failed to deliver on their promise of in-ring violence.

In a bout where both fighters desperately needed to win, it was Mosley who ultimately prevailed over Philadelphia’s Rosado by majority decision in a tepid ten-round super middleweight affair. Judge Angel Mendez (95-95) had the bout even, overruled by judges Tom Carusone (98-92) and Ruben Carrion (97-93) who had Mosley winning the co-feature bout Saturday evening at Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Action was slow out the gate, as the passionate crowd quick to offer their disapproving feedback. Boos rained down from the opening bell, which saw the Las Vegas-based Mosley Jr.—the son of Hall of Fame former three-division champion Shane Mosley Sr.—fight behind his jab as Rosado came forward but wasn’t able to do much even when able to close the gap.

Fans did their best to provide entertainment after failing to receive it in the ring, bringing back ‘The Wave’ which made its way around the venue several times while ignoring what was taking place in the ring. It didn’t seem to resonate with Rosado and Mosley, who remained on the hunt but with little in the way of sustained offense for much of the first half of the bout. Read more
