5 Lagos men in court for murder, kidnapping (Punch)

A  Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba has ordered the remand of five persons who were allegedly involved in kidnapping, murder and armed robbery in the state.

The defendants include Lateef Kazeem, Eric Adetola, Sanusi Momoh, Samuel Anuoluwapo and Adamson Olayinka.

It was gathered that the defendants were arrested by men of the State Criminal Investigation Department for kidnapping, killing one person, Emmanuel Ezeike, at Abule Ado in January, and defrauding him of N2m as well as robbing other victims. Read more

Lagos-based robbers arrested after operation in Ogun (Punch)

Two suspected Lagos-based robbers have been arrested by operatives of Ogun State Police Command after they unleashed terror on the residents of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state

The suspected robbers were reported to have been terrorising the people of Ijebu-Ode and its environs in recent times.

Tension as hoodlums invade Lagos community over court ruling (Punch)

Hoodlums on Tuesday clashed in the Magodo Isheri area of Lagos State over a court judgement.

It was gathered that some hoodlums had stormed the area to prevent court bailiffs from pasting an Appeal Court judgement, given on March 16, 2023, confirming the landlords in the community as the owners of the land.

The hoodlums, it was alleged, stormed the palace of the Isheri monarch, where some dignitaries were holding a meeting. However, some youths resident in the area resisted the invaders, resulting in a clash. Read more

Police to prosecute hoodlums involved in Lagos estate land dispute (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has vowed to bring to book those responsible for the breach of the peace in a tussle over land ownership at Magodo-Isheri on Tuesday.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Idowu Owohunwa, made the vow after peace was restored in the area.

Hoodlums clashed at the Magodo-Isheri area on Tuesday over a court judgment.

Man stabs 23-year-old debtor to death in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a man, Bitrus Wurawa, for allegedly stabbing a 23-year-old man, Ezekiel Yohana, to death with a jackknife at Kara Market, in the Ibeju-Lekki area of the state.

Wurawa was arraigned before Magistrate P. E Nwaka on one count of murder on Thursday.

Our correspondent gathered that the deceased borrowed N14,000 from the defendant in January and promised to pay in a few weeks, but he failed to do so despite several pleas from the defendant. Read more

Lagos bartender kills colleague during fight over PoS transaction (Punch)

A bartender, Nyagh Isaiah, has allegedly killed his colleague, Kingsley Kato, during a fight at a hotel on Ojuelegba Road, in the Surulere Local Government Area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Isaiah and Kato were attending to customers at the bar section of the hotel when an argument bordering on a Point of Sale transaction ensued between them.

During the argument, it was learnt that the two of them engaged in a shouting match and refused several entreaties by colleagues and customers to resolve their differences amicably. Read more

3 men abduct Lagos policeman, destroy N185k phone (Punch)

Three men, Olayinka Idowu, 39; Caleb Saviour, 45; and Andrew Ogoh, 36, were on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting at Ogba area of Lagos State on charges of abduction and assault.

The defendants allegedly abducted a policeman, Inspector Shola Akindeko, to an unknown destination and assaulted him.

One of the suspects, Idowu, was said to have destroyed the policeman’s telephone handset, iPhone XR, valued at N185,000. Read more

Lagos court remands man for stealing 3-year-old baby (Punch)

A Yaba Magistrates’ court has remanded a 22-year-old, Friday Nwaboyi, to the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for stealing a three-year-old child, Suraji Abdulkadiri.

Nwaboyi was arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command before Magistrate P. E. Nwaka on two counts of conspiracy and child stealing.

According to the prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, the offence committed by Nwaboyi contravened Sections 411 and 277 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.” Read more

Lagos kidnapper demanding N20m ransom shot dead, captives freed (Punch)

A suspected kidnapper on Thursday lost his life during a gun duel with policemen in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

During the shootout, the policemen also rescued two abducted victims abandoned by the kidnappers at their hideouts in the area.

Assailants kill policeman, escape with rifle in Lagos (Vanguard)

Assailants shot a policeman to death on Friday in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, police confirmed on Monday.

The assailants escaped with the rifle of the slain policeman.

A police spokesman in Lagos State, SP Benjamin Hundeyin told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that three other police operatives were seriously injured in the attack.

Operatives of the Imota Police Division in the Ikorodu area were on patrol duty when they came under the assailants’ attack at Emuren Junction, on Itokin Road in the area. Read more

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, weekend, arrested another suspected serial fake traffic officer of the agency, Mr. Omotutu Bamidele, 55, around the Ikoyi area of the state.

Bamidele, the suspect, who hailed from ‘Atijere Town’ in Ondo State, However, confessed that he and his colleagues still at large were making an average of N35,000 from extortion acts on a daily basis.

The suspect confessed to having been impersonating with a reflective jacket as a LASTMA officer and extorting money from motorists particularly private car owners/ drivers at highbrow areas across the state. Read more
