Court remands man, 24, over alleged rape, robbery

A 24-year-old man, Onyeka Nwafor was on Tuesday remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre by an Ikeja Magistrate Court, sitting at the Ogba area of Lagos State.

Nwafor was arraigned for allegedly using a fake gun to rob one Henry Ajayi of his eight phones worth N5m and also allegedly raped a 30-year-old woman, Muidat Jimoh.

Magistrate Mrs . E. Kubenje gave the order after the defendant who is facing four charges bordering on robbery and rape levelled against him by the police was arraigned.

The police prosecutor, ASP Ola Olasiyan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 20, 2022.

According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is punishable under Section 299, 297(1), 298(3) and 260 of the Criminal law of Lagos State  2015.

The charge read, “That you, Onyeka Nwanfor and others now at large on the 20th day of August, 2022 around 3pm at No. 86 Bashiru Shittu Street, Magodo Phase II in the Lagos Magisterial District did conspire among amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: robbery and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

“That you, Onyeka Nwanfor and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District did rob eight varieties phone all valued Five Million Naira (N5,000,000.00) property of Henry Ajayi and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 296 and punishable under Section 297(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

“That you, Onyeka Nwanfor and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District did have in your possession one revolver pistol toy gun and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 298(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

“That you Onyeka Nwanfor and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District did rape one Muidat Jimoh ‘F’ 30 years and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

While the Magistrate did not take the plea of the defendant, the case was adjourned till March 28, for mention. (Punch)
