Alleged Rape: Court remands medical doctor in Ikoyi Prison (Channels)

Dr Femi Olaleye, the Managing Director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, has been remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional facility pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions.

Mr Olaleye, is facing a two-count charge of defilement and sexual assault by penetration of his wife’s 16-year-old niece.

He was arraigned by the Lagos state government on Wednesday at the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, in Ikeja area of Lagos.

The doctor pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him. Read more

LASTMA rescues victim from ‘‘one-chance’’ robbers in Lagos (Punch)

Two suspects who engaged in ‘one-chance’ robbery, were on Tuesday arrested while a female victim was rescued by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

According to a statement signed by the Director, Public Affairs Department, LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, the victim was rescued from the car of the suspects by the agency’s personnel monitoring traffic around Pedesbytrian Church, Yaba, Lagos.

The statement quoted the General Manager, LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, as saying, “Our officers on patrol and with the help from passersby chased and apprehended a Toyota Corolla saloon car (FST 60 RJ) after a lady at the back seat was heard shouting ‘kidnappers’ right after the bridge coming  towards Yaba from Jibowu.

“The driver with the lady at the front seat were immediately apprehended while the woman who shouted kidnappers quickly got down and explained that immediately she joined the car from Maryland going to Apapa, a lady beside the driver collected her phone with other valuables and she shouted after noticing that they were ‘one-chance’ kidnappers robbing them of their valuables before discharging them at any location of their choice. Lagos man escapes lynching over failed kidnap bid (Punch)

A man, Gabriel Samson, has been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly attempting to abduct a five-year-old boy in the Ago area of the state.

A source in the area, told our correspondent that Samson was attacked by a mob who caught him in the act, adding that they were on the brink of lynching Samson when policemen from the Ago Police Station, stormed the scene and rescued him.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said after Samson was rescued and taken to the station, he behaved erratically during interrogation, adding that his sister, Queen, when contacted, confirmed that he was of unsound mind.

He said, “The police received an information on November 24, 2022, around 8am, that somebody is about to be lynched on Nwachukwu drive. The divisional officer of the Ago-Okota led a team of police officers to the scene and arrested a man who later identified himself as Gabriel Samson. Read more

Lagos guard detained for 12 years awarded N500k (Punch)

The Lagos State Court of Appeal has ordered the office of the Attorney General of the state to pay N500,000 to a security guard, Sule Sanni, who was arrested in 1999 and unlawfully detained for 12 years without arraignment or prosecution.

This was contained in a judgment jointly delivered by Justices Onyekachi Otisi, Obande Ogbuinya, and Peter Affen, on Monday November 21, 2022.

PUNCH Metro gathered that in December 1998, suspected thieves broke into a provision store owned by Sanni who was also a security guard in the area.

The Adamawa State indigene was said to have engaged the robbers and in the process apprehended one of them as others fled. Read more

How Lagos RCCG pastor was killed –Brother (Punch)

A prosecution witness, Omoniyi Dada, in the ongoing trial of two teenage boys, Farouk Mohammed, and Kasali Jamiu, who allegedly killed a Redeemed Christian Church of God’s pastor, Babatunde, has told the court how he found out about his brother’s death.

Omoniyi, who is the first prosecution witness, told a Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos State that he got to know that his brother was killed in the church when he received a phone call from his younger sister.

Justice Sherifat Sonaike remanded Mohammed and Jamiu on October 20, following their arraignment over the murder of the 46-year-old pastor.

At the commencement of trial, Omoniyi, who was led in evidence by the Director of Public Prosecution, Dr Babajide Martins, told justice Sonaike that before he got to the church, his sister informed him that the pastor’s corpse had been taken to the Navy Town Hospital. Read more

Lagos agency slams company workers for attacking officials (Punch)

The Lagos State Central Business District has debunked allegations that its officials brutalised and detained three workers of the Erisco Foods Limited in a Black Maria at the agency’s office in the state.

PUNCH Metro had reported that the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Eric Umeofia, in separate petitions to the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the management of the CBD, said the agency’s officials brutalised and detained one of his drivers, a motor boy and worker in a Black Maria for over six hours like criminals.

Reacting to the development, the Deputy Director, Public Affairs, CBD, Olaoye Olusegun, slammed the company’s workers for mobilising hoodlums to attack its officials while doing their lawful duties in the state.

Narrating how the incident happened, Olusegun said, “On Friday, October 21, 2022, along Billings way, two trucks were sighted by CBD patrol team parked along a busy road where  “NO STOPPING” ,“NO PARKING” signage was conspicuously erected. Read more

Driver flees as LASTMA uncovers gun in vehicle (Punch)

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority on Thursday said it recovered a gun from an impounded black Honda vehicle driving against traffic at Sango-Tedo, inward Abijo G.R.A, along the Lagos-Epe Expressway area of the state.

The agency’s spokesperson, Taofiq Adebayo, in a statement, said policemen attached to the LASTMA were immediately alerted to the incident.

Adebayo said, “Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority today recovered a gun (pump action) inside an unregistered black Honda vehicle impounded for driving against traffic in Lagos.

“The General Manager of LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, disclosed that the impounded unregistered vehicle was apprehended by the patrol team of the agency while driving against traffic (one-way) around Sango-Tedo, inward Abijo G.R.A, along Lagos-Epe Expressway. Read more

Family accuses federal agency over land encroachment (Punch)

The Ado royal family of Abule Ado has filed an injunction before the Badagry High Court, Lagos State, after officials of the Federal Housing Authority, among others, allegedly demolished buildings on land in FESTAC Town, in the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of the state.

The family members said the government officials carried out the demolition despite a pending case before the court.

PUNCH Metro gathered from members of the family that the federal government acquired parts of the land in Abule Ado to build the FESTAC town in 1974.

It was learnt that the family members and officials of the federal agency had been in dispute over the remaining parts of the land. Read more

Indian expatriate docked for alleged N816m fraud (Punch)

A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos State, has remanded an Indian national, Chandra Singh, at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for alleged N816m fraud in the state.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arraigned Singh before the court on 19-count bordering on bribery and retention of stolen property preferred against him.

The agency’s prosecuting counsel, Bilikisu Buhari, told the court that the defendant, on or before January 1, 2021, whilst in the employment of the African Natural Resources and Mines Limited, solicited indirectly to confer undue advantage for his company, CVN Engineering Ltd, in order that he influenced his employee to award the supply costing N365m to CVN Engineering Ltd.

The agency alleged that the defendant solicited indirectly to confer undue advantage for his company, Neo Paints Nigeria Ltd. Read more

Father, friend bag life sentence for raping 14-year-old daughter (Punch)

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Wednesday sentenced a man, Adewale Ibitoye, to life imprisonment for raping his 14-year-old daughter.

The court also jailed Ibitoye’s friend, Moses Orukpe, who defiled and impregnated the minor.

Justice Abiola Soladoye handed down the verdict after the court found the duo guilty of sexual offences.

The trial judge held that the prosecution had proved the charge of defilement against the convicts beyond any doubt. Read more

Lagos businessman accuses neighbour of N2.5m fraud (Punch)

A businessman, Jude Oguta, has narrated before the Ogba Magistrate Court, Ikeja, Lagos State, how his neighbour, Nnamdi Brown, allegedly defrauded him of N2.5m over car importation in the Ogba area of the state.

Led in evidence by his counsel, Chinalau Udadione, Oguta, on Monday, told Magistrate A.F Akinyemi, that Brown informed him of his car importation business and he sought his assistance when he needed to purchase a car in February 2021.

Oguta said, “He (Oguta) said I should give him N2.5m and I gave him. The value of the car was N5.5m but he said I could pay the remaining when the car had been imported into the country.”

The businessman said Brown later returned to demand additional N1m, adding that the amount he needed was actually N3.5m. Read more

Kidnappers in army uniform abduct Lagos passengers, probe begins (Punch)

A yet-to-be-identified man has narrated his ordeal in the hands of suspected kidnappers who abducted him and other passengers in the Lekki area of Lagos State

The victim, in a viral video on Thursday, said he boarded a commercial bus to the Iyana-Oworo area of the state, but in the course of the journey, discovered that he had fallen into the hands of suspected kidnappers.

He said, “I got into a bus heading to Iyana Oworo and noticed this weird smell. Anybody who has been in a military training or setting will know about gasses that knock people off. I knew that was what it was, so I spat in my handkerchief and used it to cover my nose.

“In about five to 10 minutes, every other passenger in the bus had fallen asleep except members of the team who had all used nose masks to cover their noses.” Read more

NDLEA nabs wanted kingpin, disabled drug dealer, Saudi-bound trafficker with cocaine in sandals (Guardian)

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested a wanted notorious kingpin, Wasiu Sanni Gbolahan, popularly known as Teacher, who recruits mules for the cartel.

The operatives also disrupted activities of a major cocaine syndicate in Lagos, following the arrest of a 56-year-old trafficker, Lawal Lateef Oyenuga, who was on a mission to deliver 400 grammes of the class A drug concealed in a pair of palm sandals in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The swift follow-up by NDLEA operatives attached to the screening point of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos on Thursday. November 24, also saw the interception of Oyenuga with a pair of black palm sandals packed in the luggage he was going with to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia via Addis Ababa on an Ethiopian Airways flight.

Spokesperson for the Agency, Femi Babafemi, in a statement, yesterday, said a thorough examination of the sandals revealed that they were used to conceal two parcels of cocaine weighing 400 grammes. Read more

Lagos Police Command finally arrest Abubakar Maiyaki Ajagungbale’s notorious boys terrorising Ibeju Lekki (Guardian)

Nine notorious land grabbers, terrorizing Eti-Osa, Oreki Village, Ibeju Agbe, Ibeju Lekki and Epe Area of Lagos State, allegedly working for a renowned land grabber, Abubakar Maiyaki A.K.A Ajagungbale and Taiwo Enitiodunmo (A.K.A) T9, have been arrested in Lagos after their invasion at Odogbawojo Village with firearms on 21st November 2022, to perform their landgrabbing duty.

They were arrested by the Noforija Police Officers and later transferred the case to the CP Lagos State Crack team, on instruction of the Commissioner of Police.

Maiyaki, we gathered, is working hands in hand with Taiwo Enitiodunmo, an alleged Killer who was recently released from the Homicide, DIG Force C.I.D cell through the influence of a top officer in S.W.A.T.

Enitiodunmo, we learnt, recently led armed land grabbers to Eredo and Odogbawojo where he allegedly killed a 4 years old boy and was released from Homicide, in order to escape justice within 4 months after his freedom. T9 is said to have been unleashing terror on Epe and Ibeju Lekki communities without fear of the law. Read more

LASTMA hands over notorious one-chance gang to police (Guardian)

Officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), yesterday, handed over two members  of a one-chance robbery gang to Ilasan Police Station, Lagos.

The suspects were nabbed yesterday at Ikate, Lekki-Ajah area of Lagos.

Director, Public Affairs Department, LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, who disclosed this in a statement, said a patrol team of the agency arrested the suspects while on duty monitoring and controlling traffic around the Lekki-Ajah area of the state.

According to the spokesperson: “Our officials while on traffic patrol heard passengers with loud voices shouting at the thieves inside an unpainted T4 commercial bus (AAA 750 XX). While trying to stop the driver, he drove dangerously and our men pursued them with a LASTMA patrol vehicle to Ikate, where they were blocked by another pathfinder car belonging to a good Samaritan.” Read more
