COVID-19 claims 2 more lives in Nigeria, as NCDC reports 195 new cases

Two more people have died of Covid-19, the highly infectious respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus in Nigeria as the country recorded 195 new cases in the past 24 hours, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has said.

That brings the new total to 57,437.

Making the announcement via its Twitter handle Monday night, the government agency said 48,674 previously reported cases are now recovered and discharged.

Nigeria’s death toll from the coronavirus is now 1,100.

Africa has recorded more than 1.3 million cases and over 33,000 deaths.

As of September 19, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on the continent stood at 33,818. There are 1,399,186 confirmed infections and 1,148,578 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

Worldwide, the number of those diagnosed with COVID-19 is more than 31 million. According to Johns Hopkins University, the global total of confirmed coronavirus cases stands at more than 31 million people and almost 959,000 have died, whileome 21.1 million people have recovered.
