COVID-19 vaccine arrives Nigeria today

Following the imminent arrival of Covid-19 vaccines on Tuesday March 2, 2021, the Federal Ministry of Health has opened a registration portal to make the process “easier and faster.”

According to a message from the ministry: “You can now register to secure a date and time for COVID-19 vaccination on the simple and user-friendly registration platform of the Federal Ministry of Health for COVID-19 Vaccination.”

Although no start date was indicated, the message goes on to note that “registering on the portal will make your vaccination easier and faster.”

Tweeting via the Ministry’s handle on Monday March 1, 2021, the Honourable Minister of Health Dr EO Ehanire noted at the launch of the T.E.A.C.H strategy for #COVID19 vaccination event that vaccination with safe & effective #COVID19 vaccine is a critical part of Nigeria’s strategy to counter the #COVID19 pandemic & stop transmission of the virus.

According to the minister “we in Nigeria finally have the privilege to join other countries in kick- starting the immunization program which will prioritise first those people most at risk of infection due to their exposure in the line of duty as determined by available epidemiology data”.

He added that “”In less than 24 hours the first batch of AstraZeneca vaccines will arrive in the Nigeria #COVAX Facility & will be deployed to vaccinate first our critical front line health care workers who are providing essential care especially for severe #COVID19 patients.”

He called on all eligible “Nigerians to take the #COVID19 vaccination when it is their turn. This is the only way we can achieve heard [sic] immunity to stop the community transmission of this deadly virus”
