Housewife sentenced to death for killing neighbour over bench (Punch)
A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Tuesday sentenced a housewife, Stella Gilbert, to death for killing her neighbour, Stella Godwin, over a bench.
The inciddnt happened on June 22, 2013, on Ojora Street in the Ajegunle area of Lagos.
The duo were said to have fought for a bench left behind by a neighbour who moved out of their residence. Read more
Agent charged with N15m fraud (Nation)
An investment agent, Odia Joseph Okobiemen, who allegedly defrauded a cooperative society of N15 million, on the pretext of investing it in an agriculture scheme, has been brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court.
Okobiemen, 43, who was arraigned by the Police Special Fraud Unit (SFU), Ikoyi, Lagos, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of stealing and obtaining under false pretence before Chief Magistrate O. Aloba.
Prosecuting counsel Morufu Animashaun alleged that the defendant committed the offence in May 2018, at 2, C&I Leasing House Leasing Drive, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. Read more
Housewife pours hot rice on policewoman (Punch)
For allegedly pouring a steaming pot of rice on her neighbour during an argument, a 29-year-old housewife, Mary Simon, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Simon, who lives at Block 6, Flat 3, Mopol 20 Barracks, Lagos, was arraigned on one count of assault.
The defendant allegedly assaulted her neighbour, Justina Yohana, after the latter beat her up. Read more
Unemployed man jailed for touching bust (Punch)
It was gathered that Mudashiru committed the offences on April 21 around 8.20am at Bombata Market, Oroyinyin Street, in the Adeniji Adele area of Lagos Island, Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that 29-year-old Mudashiru and others at large assaulted one Judith Nwachima by touching her bust on her way to a clinic. Read more
Boutique owner, conductor arrested for selling drugs (Punch)
Operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad have arrested two suspects, Olukoya Ayodele and Victor Godwin, for allegedly peddling hard drugs in the Alausa area of the state.
The suspects were said to have been illegally running a distribution network of drugs.
Police operatives, who reportedly got a tip-off on their activities, arrested them while posing as potential buyers of the illicit drugs. Read more
Man docked for shredding lady’s clothes (Nation)
A 35-year-old man, Tonye Mike, who allegedly assaulted a woman by shredding her clothe to pieces during a quarrel, on Thursday, appeared in an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Mike is standing trial for assault. He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp. Maria Dauda, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 7, at 9a.m at Exclusive Mansion Hotel on Ayilara Street, Ojuelegba, Lagos State. Read more
Brothers, others arrested for killing security guard (Punch)
The family of a security guard, Momodu Bello, who was allegedly killed by hoodlums in Ajangbadi, in the Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State, have demanded justice for him.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the hoodlums were guests of two brothers, Jamiu and Lekan Yisa, who were marking the 41-day remembrance of their late father.
A security guard, Adeola Ashiru, who was patrolling the community around midnight, was reported to have caught the brothers and the guests smoking hemp. Read more
