Man in court for posting fake picture of insane girl on Facebook (Nation)

A 28-year-old man, Abdul-Salam Wasiu, on Wednesday appeared in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly posting a fake picture of an insane girl inside a gutter on Facebook.

The police charged charged Wasiu, whose address was not given with two counts of breach of peace and belonging to secret a society.

The Prosecutor, ASP Akpam Ikem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 15 at 2.54 p.m., at No. 130, Aka Road, by Church Bus Stop, in Ajangbadi area of Lagos. Read more

Public servant arraigned over absence of fraud suspects (Punch)

The police have arraigned a public servant, Dominic Aduma, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for obstruction of justice.

It was gathered that in July 2018, Aduma stood as a surety for two defendants, Kennedy Odama and Anthony Chukwuka, who were accused of diverting petroleum products.

He had allegedly undertaken to produce the suspects when requested by the police. Read more

Hypnotised maid gets three-year community service sentence (Nation)

An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Tuesday sentenced a maid, Edeh Ngozi, who stole N22,104,000 worth of jewellery and luxury goods while hypnotised, to three years of community service.

Mrs. M. O. Ope-Agbe convicted Ngozi, 22, following her plea of “guilty” to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

She ordered the convict to carry out her sentence for three hours every day in designated Lagos communities, for three years. Read more

Kidnappers kill two bureau de change operators after collecting N1.6m (Punch)

Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad attached to the Lagos State Police Command have arrested three members of a syndicate for allegedly kidnapping and killing two bureau de change operators in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the victims – Alhaji Yakubu Musa and Alhaji Hassan Umoru – had gone to carry out a business transaction with the syndicate on March 14, 2019.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Mu’azu, was said to have directed the SARS operatives to investigate the matter when the duo were reported missing. Read more

Dealer jailed for N19.8m car fraud (Nation)

An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a self-styled car dealer, Adamson Oladimeji Mustapha, to five years imprisonment for stealing Nl9.8million from a United States-based businessman, Olusegun Adesanya.

Chief Magistrate Adetokunbo Omoyele convicted Mustapha on one-count of stealing, contrary to Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Mrs. Omoyele discharged Mustapha of four other counts of conspiracy, stealing and bail jumping because they were not proven. Read more

Woman docked for alleged stealing N297,000 (Nation)

The Police on Tuesday, arraigned a 24-year-old woman, Deborah Adeoba in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N297,000.

The accused of no fixed address is facing a two-count charge of break and entry and stealing, an offence he denied.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the accused committed the offences sometime in February at about 1a.m., at Tope Bus Stop, Ilogbo area of Lagos. Read more

Plumber accused of stealing (Nation)

A 27-year-old plumber, Azeez Muhammed, on Monday appeared at an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court for allegedly breaking into a school to steal laptops and a speaker.

He pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of damage and stealing.

Prosecuting Inspector Aondohemba Koti said the defendant committed the offence on April 19 at Mushin, Lagos. Read more
