The Art Factory is set to host a spectacular Valentine’s Day event featuring the renowned Crown Troupe of Africa in collaboration with Ara Studio in a celebration of love, laughter and learning.
Titled Love is Blind, the theatrical masterpiece written by Mufu Onifade and directed by Segun Adefila promises an enchanting evening for attendees.
With gates opening at 6 pm on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the Art Factory located on 32 Awofodu Street off Pedro Road, Lagos, audiences can expect an unforgettable experience for a nominal fee of N2,000.
According to Adefila, “‘Love is Blind’ is a comedic play set on a university campus, following the antics of some carefree and mischievous students. The plot revolves around a group of friends who in spite of their differences still manage to bond when it matters to them regardless of the the purposes of the bonding. Their escapades and lessons learnt are all centred around the theme of love”.
He said that as the story unfolds, the characters confront societal hypocrisy and the disregard for the disabled, shedding light on the prejudices that exist within the society at large.
This is achieved through humorous exchanges and awkward encounters, as the play challenges the audience to reconsider their perceptions and attitudes toward disability and societal norms.
Speaking more on the play, Adefila said it “ultimately delivers a poignant message about acceptance, empathy, and the true nature of love, highlighting the importance of seeing beyond appearances and embracing differences in a lighthearted and entertaining manner”.
Prepare to be immersed in a journey of emotions as the Crown Troupe of Africa, renowned for their captivating performances, takes the stage alongside Ara Studio’s artistic prowess.
This is not the first time Adefila is collaborating with Onifade for a Valentine’s Day theatre production. Back in 2018 the two cultural icons staged Yeepa Solarin n Bo, a translation of Femi Osofisan’s Who is Afraid of Solarin!
The drama produced by Onifade, on the platform of his Ara Studio Production, was staged at the National Theatre and at the Muson Centre and directed by Adefila with a 30-man cast including Wale Macaulay, Taiwo Ibikunle, Fatai Adetayo (Lalude), Yinka Davies, Feyikemi Taiwo and Sunday Afolabi.
On the essence of the show, Onifade noted then that the theme of the play, which is war against corruption, mixed well with the pulse of the nation. According to him, the comedic fun it offered was also good for the love season.
He said, “We want people to enjoy Valentine’s Day in a meaningful way. This is not about going to a club and dancing your time away, it is about sitting down to learn something that you can take away. Something that can inspire your life, that will inspire you to contribute your own quota to the new Nigeria that we are all aspiring for; a Nigeria where corruption is no longer an issue, a Nigeria where I can look at the governance of the country and be happy and content; a Nigeria where everyone has equality that guarantees justice and all that. That is what the play is all about, and that is the message that we are pushing across to people.”
Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to celebrate love in its purest form. Whether you’re single, coupled, or simply looking for an enriching experience, “Love Blind” promises to touch hearts, evoke laughter, and impart timeless lessons.
