One killed, many injured in clash between cultists in Lagos (DailyTrust)

One person was killed while many were injured when a fight broke out among suspected members of Aiye and Buccaneer at Ikosi area of Ketu in Lagos.

At least, 15 members of the two cult gangs were arrested in the clash which started around 6 am on Wednesday.

Several commercial tricycles and motorcycles were burnt in the fracas which grounded business activities in the area until the arrival of mobile policemen and policemen from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) who were able to restore normalcy.

It was learnt that the fracas erupted over the collection of levies from fruit sellers at Ketu market.

The police recovered two locally made pistols and several rounds of ammunition from the suspects. Read more

Absence of prosecution witnesses stall trials of alleged kidnap kingpin ‘Evans’ (Guardian)

The absence of prosecution witnesses on Wednesday stalled the two of the trials of alleged kidnap kingpin, Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans which he is facing before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of an Ikeja Special Offences Court.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports in the first suit, Evans is facing trial alongside Victor Aduba, a dismissed member of the Nigerian Army.

The defendants are charged with four counts of kidnapping and unlawful possession of firearms.

Evans and the dismissed soldier are accused of kidnapping Mr Sylvanus Ahamonu, holding him hostage for at least nine weeks and collecting a ransom of 420,000 dollars from his family. Read more

Lagos CP condemns Computer Village video, says policemen are not thieves (Guardian)

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Lagos State, Mr Hakeem Odumosu, has condemned and described the viral video, where two policemen were attacked and alleged to have stolen mobile phones, as false.

Odumosu condemned and falsified the content of the viral video in a statement signed on Tuesday by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer on Tuesday.

He said that the incident, which he described as mischievous, allegedly happened on Friday at the Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos.

Viral video: Mob attacks Lagos policemen, labels them thieves (Punch)

Two mobile policemen were attacked and called thieves by angry youths suspected to be traders at the Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos State.

In a viral video online, some angry youths were seen assaulting the policemen and shouting ‘Ole! Ole!’ – thieves – on them.

One of the youths was seen attempting to hit a plank on the head of one of the police officers.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Friday morning when the Lagos task force when to search for piracy and substandard goods in the market. Read more

12-year-old raped while fleeing from Lagos aunt’s torture (Punch)

A 12-year-old minor has said she was raped by hoodlums while escaping from her aunt, one Chigozie, whom she accused of torturing her at her grandma’s house in the Itamaga area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the minor fled from home to avoid being assaulted, as the men took advantage of her and sexually abused her.

Some residents were said to have found her wandering on the road and rescued her.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, a good Samaritan, Dupe Onikosi, said the victim had different injuries on her body. Read more

Container falls from trailer, crushes three vehicles, one tricycle in Lagos (Tribune)

A 40-foot container fell from a trailer in Lagos State on Monday and crushed three vehicles and a tricycle in the process.

The incident happened at Barracks Bus-Stop inward Trade Fair on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway when the driver of the trailer, who was reportedly driving recklessly lost control and the container, destroying the three vehicles and a tricycle.

The vehicles destroyed were a black Toyota Yaris with registration number LSR 247 GP; grey Honda CRV with registration number LND 80 BS; ash colour Suzuki Minibus with registration number KSF 904 XY and a green tricycle with registration number AGL 831 QL.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), although there was no life lost or injuries sustained, the vehicles and the tricycle were badly destroyed. Read more

Sanwo-Olu approves 21-year jail term for cultists (ThisDay)

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has signed the bill for the Prohibition of Unlawful Societies and Cultism of 2021 into law, approving 21-year jail term for convicted cultists in the state.

The state’s House of Assembly, in February, passed the anti-cultism bill, which also stipulates a 15-year jail term for anyone found guilty of abetting cultists and residents who willfully allow their properties to be used as meeting points by cultists.

Sanwo-Olu assented to the bill yesterday at the swearing-in event for newly appointed members of the state’s Public Procurement Agency Governing Board and two Permanent Secretaries held at Banquet Hall in the State House, Alausa.

At the event, the governor also signed three other bills into law. Read more

Ex-convict arrested during robbery in Lagos (Punch)

Men of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested an ex-convict, Taiwo Sunmonu, for allegedly dispossessing unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables in the Ijanikin area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Sunday that Sunmonu was recently released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, adding that a locally-made pistol was recovered from him following his arrest.

He said, “The Lagos State Police Command arrested one Taiwo Sunmonu, 23, on Saturday, March 13, 2021, around 11.30pm, for armed robbery after he was released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in November 2020, having served a five-year jail term. Read more

Robbers raid home in Lagos, flee with loot in victim’s car (Punch)

Some residents of an apartment in Ogombo, Ajah area of the state have lost valuables to armed robbers who fled with the stolen items in a Toyota Venza belonging to one of the victims.

This is just as the police at the Ogombo division were accused of demanding N300,000 to track the car.A short video of the attack posted on Twitter on Thursday by one Davey Quid, @daveyishigh, who claimed to be one of the victims, showed different parts of the apartment in a shambles.
