195 held for ‘cultism, gangsterism’ in Lagos (Nation)

Operatives of the Lagos Police Command arrested 195 youths for alleged cult and gangster clashes in different parts of the state.

The suspects were arrested between March 20 and June 4 for alleged involvement in acts of terrorism, vandalism, street fighting or cult wars that left many dead, maimed.

Among them were nine men seen in a viral video sometime in May where they interrogated and killed a young man suspected to belong to a rival group at Odogunyan, Ikorodu. Read more

Police arrest two siphoning fuel from Lagos homes (Punch)

The operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team have arrested two persons, Victoria Ogunsomi and Shafe Abayomi, for allegedly siphoning fuel from a pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspects allegedly dug wells in their respective places of residence on Surprise Avenue, Ejigbo, and connected hoses with submersible pumping machines to the wells linking the pipeline.

It was gathered during their parade in Lagos on Monday that the suspects were siphoning fuel into jerry cans and tankers whenever the NNPC pumped products through the pipeline. Read more

CP orders manhunt for Okadamen who killed Lagos businessman (Punch) 

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered a manhunt for the motorcyclists, who allegedly killed a Lagos businessman, Yamah Usman, in the Elepe area of Ikorodu.

This followed PUNCH Metro’s report that Yamah was stoned to death by an angry mob of motorcyclists for hitting a partially sighted man with his vehicle around the Ikorodu Garage last Monday.

The motorcyclists were said to have reacted violently towards Yamah after the Edo State indigene hit the partially sighted man, and out of fear for his life, he reportedly fled from the scene, but the motorcyclists pursued him and intercepted him at Elepe on the Ijede Road, where he was stoned to death. Police discover oil well in Ejigbo area of Lagos where residents siphon, sell petroleum products (Vanguard)

Operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, IRT, have discovered two wells, at Ejigbo area of Lagos State, which they said is being used in siphoning and selling petroleum products from a pipeline belonging to the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

Police sources disclosed to Vanguard, that two suspects, identified as Vitoria Ogunsomi and Shafe Abayomi, who are believed to be owners of the wells located in No. 4 and 2, Surprise Avenue Ejibgo, Lagos, were arrested when operatives of the IRT headed by deputy Commissioner of Police got wind of their activities.

It was gathered that a team of operatives discovered that Ogunsomi and Abayomi dug 75-foot wells in their compound, which is located few meters away from the NNPC pipeline, and they connected pipes with submissive pumping machines into the well linking with the pipeline. Read more

Police arrest 179 interstate travellers, impound 43 vehicles (Tribune)

The Lagos State police command has arrested 179 people, who allegedly violated the interstate movement restriction in the state.

The police in the state also impounded 43 commercial buses and also arrested their drivers.

The image maker in charge of the state police command, Bala Elkana, confirmed the arrest and impoundment in a statement signed by him on Monday and made available to Tribune Online. Read more

BDC operators charged with laundering $1.6m (Nation)

Two Bureau de Change (BDC) operators who allegedly laundered $1.6 million said to be proceeds of smuggling, were brought before the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court.

Chris Ogbonna and Sulaiman Jibbo, alongside two firms – Kur and Sule Nigeria Enterprises; and Sunchrist Trans Nigeria Ltd – were arraigned for the alleged offence by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

They are standing trial on a five-count charge before Justice Ayokunle Faji.

The EFCC told the judge that the defendants ought to have reasonably known that the $1.6m, which they allegedly removed from jurisdiction sometime in 2017, “formed parts of proceeds of unlawful activity, to wit: smuggling.” Read more

Okadamen stone Lagos businessman to death for hitting partially sighted man (Punch)

A businessman, Usman Yamah, has been killed by a group of motorcyclists in the Elepe area of the Ikorodu North Local Government Area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the motorcyclists, acted in reprisal and allegedly killed Yamah for using his vehicle to hit a partially sighted man around the Ikorodu Garage last Monday.

After hitting the partially sighted man, it was learnt that the motorcyclists, out of annoyance, became violent towards Yamah, who reportedly zoomed off from the scene of the incident for fear of his life.

Angered by Yamah’s decision, the motorcyclists, who were said to be from the northern part of the country, mounted their motorcycles and gave the Edo State indigene a hot chase till he was intercepted around Elepe on the Ijede Road. Read more

Two traffic robbers nabbed on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Punch)

Personnel of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two robbers on the Long Bridge, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state while dispossessing motorists of their belongings.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said this in a statement on Sunday.

Oyeyemi said the suspects – Ibrahim Nura, 27, an indigene of Kebbi State, and Isaac Kyegh, from Benue State, were arrested while dispossessing motorists of their valuables on the bridge. Read more

Fathers held for ‘raping’ daughters in Lagos (Nation)

Operatives of the Lagos Police Command have arrested two men for allegedly raping their teenage daughters in Ikorodu and Bariga areas of the state.

The suspects, Eke Kanu, 61, and Chibuike Kalu, 33, allegedly took advantage of their children at different times and threatened to harm them if they told anyone about the development.

Kanu, a resident of Ebute road, Igbogbo in Ikorodu allegedly impregnated his 19-year-old daughter and forced her to have an abortion.

The man, who was reported at Ikorodu Police Division by members of FIDA, was said to have taken the girl to a chemist where they administered drugs and injections on her after he realised she was pregnant. Read more

Suspected robbers torture 52-year-old to death in Lagos (Punch)

Suspected armed robbers have attacked a 52-year-old man, Olumuyiwa Akinfenwa, in the Egbeda area of Lagos State, torturing him to death.

Our correspondent learnt that Akinfenwa, who lived on Peace Estate, Baruwa in the Ipaja area of the state, was discovered lying in a pool of his blood on Adepeju Street, Egbeda, after the robbery attack.

According to the police, the victim was attacked on June 17 at about midnight by the assailants and the matter was reported at the Shasha Police Division.

A police report obtained by our correspondent, said, “It is a case of suspected murder. One of the residents came to our station and reported that the victim aged 52 years old was beaten up in the night along Adepeju Street by unidentified men. But we believe the attackers are suspected armed robbers. Read more
