Cultists arrested for terrorising Lagos community, murder (Punch)

The residents of Iju Ishaga community of Lagos State have heaved a sigh of relief following the arrest of four suspected cult members said to be terrorising the area by the police.

Punch Metro gathered that the suspects: Tobi Popoola, 24; Collins Osobase, 25; Babajide Ishola, 28; and Abraham Amos, 24, were members of the Eiye confraternity, which is notorious for disrupting the peace in the Iju Ishaga area.

It was learnt that the suspects as well as other members of their gang still at large, often engaged in supremacy fights as an opportunity to rob people of their belongings at gunpoint. Read more

RRS arrests ‘attackers’ of Guardian Newspapers’ boss (Nation)

Operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on Wednesday evening arrested three suspected traffic robbers who held motorists to ransom at Oshodi inward Anthony.

The suspects, Samson Oyelayo, 22; Tunde Segun, 20 and Ayo Omoniyi, 24, the police said were those who attacked Editor-in-Chief of the Guardian Newspaper Debo Adeshina.

The suspects allegedly dispossessed of his mobile phone and wallet containing his ID card, 4 ATM cards and various complementary cards which the police recovered from them. Read more

Six employees connive with hoodlums to rob filling station (Punch)

The police have arrested six men for allegedly conniving with hoodlums to rob a filling station in Ojo, Lagos.

The men, who are employees of the Skepter Filling Station, reportedly called some unnamed hoodlums to come and rob the station of N3m.

It was gathered that the suspects were caught when they were having a telephone conversation with the robbers. Read more

Stepfather defiles stepdaughter, 5 (Nation)

An Ogba Magistrates’ Court Wednesday remanded in prison two men, Felix Omenihu and Rotimi Amodu, for allegedly defiling a five-year-old girl.

Omenihu, 46 and Amodu, 39, were arraigned on a two-count charge of sexual assault and conspiracy.

Prosecutor Benson Emueri alleged that the defendants defiled the girl last month at 3, Vincent Street, Morocco, Shomolu, Lagos. Read more

Woman sues Unilever for assault, demands N100m damages (Punch)

A former Procurement Manager, Marketing Materials, Central Africa with Unilever Nigeria Plc, Mrs Grace Okafor, has sued the company for alleged assault, demanding N100m in damages.

In the suit she filed before Justice Kazeem Alogba at the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere, Okafor wants the court to declare that Unilever was “vicariously liable for the unlawful and unjustifiable interference with the claimant’s person” by Mr Segun Oguntoyinbo, who works in Unilever’s Human Resources, Customer Development Department.

Oguntoyinbo was joined in the suit as the second defendant. Read more

Travel agent ‘dupes’ admission seekers of N1m (Nation)

A travel consultant, Babatunde Gbadamosi, was Wednesday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining N1,050,000 from 22 students and issuing them forged Canadian Universities’ admission letters.

Gbagamosi, 31, of 21, Kumoluyi Street, Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos, was arraigned before Magistrate M. O. Osinbajo on 15 counts of conspiracy, forgery, obtaining by false pretence and stealing.

Prosecuting Inspector Francis Igbinosa alleged that the defendant and others at large committed the offence between 2017 and 2018 at Abeke Animashaun Street, Lekki, Lagos. Read more
