Customer shoots man dead over Shawarma, flees (Punch)
A yet-to-be-identified suspect is on the run after allegedly shooting one Kayode Oloruntoba in the stomach at a food joint in the Alagbado area of Lagos State on Friday.
Efforts to save Oloruntoba by some good Samaritans, including his friend, Kazeem Okikiola, proved abortive, as he died.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Okikiola on Friday, September 11, went to Avid Bar at Alagbado to buy Shawarma and called Oloruntoba to join him.
While waiting for the Shawarma seller to attend to him, it was learnt that Okikiola got into an argument with another customer, who also wanted to buy the dish.
The argument, which centred on who should be served first, however, degenerated into an altercation and out of annoyance, the suspect left the spot, entered his car and drove away. Read more
Embattled woman appeals to IGP, others to investigate husband over alleged rape (Guardian)
A 24-year-old woman, Diana Faith, has called on the Lagos State Government, Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other relevant authorities to investigate her husband, Temidayo Lucky Kafaru, for an alleged case of sexual molestation of their five-month-old baby, among other offences.
Faith alleged that her estranged husband raped her maid who is a minor and also molested his baby by putting his manhood in the baby’s mouth.
“Since then, there have been constant threats to my life and that of my mother. I am calling on the Inspector General of Police to intervene in my case and not allow my life and that of my family to be wasted. He has refused to make himself available for investigation on allegations against him,” she said. Read more
Lagos berates LASU management, protesting workers lock out VC, others (Punch)
The Lagos State Government has berated the management of the Lagos State University, Ojo, over its failure to pay salary increment to its workers from the monthly subvention as well as the Internally Generated Revenue.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Tokunbo Wahab, said this in a statement on Monday.
At LASU, the four unions, on Monday locked out their Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, as well as students, who just resumed after the COVID-19 lockdown.
By 7am, members of the unions stood at the gate and prevented members of staff from gaining entry in to the institution. Read more
Lagos train accident: Amaechi, Sanwo-olu visit scene (Tribune)
One person involved in Monday morning’s train accident in Lagos has died. This is even as the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi and the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwoolu visited the scene on Monday.
Giving further details on how the train accident in Lagos occurred, LASEMA Response Team stated that this morning it recovered a white bus with registration number GGE 972 GE which veered onto the rail tracks while crossing the Railway line at PWD inward Oshodi and subsequently collided with a scheduled commuter train.
According to the statement issued by Head, Public Affairs-LASEMA, Nosa Okunbor, “LASEMA received distress calls through it’s 767/112 Toll-Free Lines at 8:12 a.m on the incident which has left one adult male dead, from the two occupants of the second vehicle, a Toyota Highlander Jeep. Read more
Train crushes Lagos trader attempting to save son in SUV (Punch)
A commuter train has crushed a shoe merchant, Christopher Ngobidi, to death, while his son, Arinze, is fighting for his life in a hospital. The incident happened on Monday around the Nigerian Army Shopping Arena, Oshodi, Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the train had earlier collided with a white Ford Ecoline 250 bus with number plate, GGE 972 GE, at the PWD area.
The train, while pulling the Ford vehicle, got to the Army Shopping Arena, where Ngobidi parked his Toyota Highlander on the rail tracks.
It was gathered that the Anambra State indigene, a trader at the Arena, was waiting for the gate of the shopping mall to open when he saw the approaching train. Read more
UCH nurses, pharmacists, lab scientists, other health workers join (Vanguard)
Healthcare workers at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, on Monday, joined the nationwide strike called by the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that many essential places in the hospital, including the pharmacy, the medical records section and two of the main gates into the hospital were locked.
The JOHESU Chairman, UCH Chapter, Mr Adeolu Alli, said the strike became imperative after “a long period” — three years of waiting on the Federal Government. Read more

Ado, also donated working tools worth thousands of naira to members of the Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) Kano State Chapter, for effective service delivery to be ensured.
Speaking at the distribution of the tools to ten selected centres across all the 44 Local Government Areas in Kano at the weekend, Mohammed said empowering the automobiles technicians in Kano had been the major cardinal thrust of the engine oil outfit, in view of their immense contribution to the development of the automobile business. Producer Pamela Adie and director Uyaiedu Ikpe-Etim are determined that Ife (meaning “love” in the Yoruba language) reaches a Nigerian audience, but the NFVCB says it will not be approved as it violates the country’s strict laws on homosexuality.

Protests against Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara’s contentious plan to run for a third term have turned violent in several cities as fears grow of a repeat of a conflict that claimed 3,000 lives in the West African country a decade ago.
In the economic capital Abidjan, protesters torched a bus in the working-class district of Yopougon on Monday after scuffles broke out earlier in the day between security forces and youths.

A newly formed hurricane is closing in on the US Gulf Coast, threatening several southern US states including Florida, Mississippi and Alabama.
Hurricane Sally grew to a category two storm on Monday and was expected to make landfall early on Wednesday.
The hurricane will bring more than 1ft (30cm) of rain and 85mph (135km/h) winds to some areas, with the potential of deadly storm surges, officials say.

A pensioner has put up a heart-breaking poster in his window ‘as a last resort’ to make friends after the death of his wife left him completely isolated. Tony Williams, 75, from Hampshire, said he feels ‘cursed’ by loneliness after his wife of 35 years, Jo, died days after being diagnosed with cancer during lockdown.
The couple were unable to have children and he has no family that live nearby. Since the death of his ‘soul mate’, the retired physicist said he often goes for days without speaking to anyone and instead stays at home hoping the phone will ring ‘but it never does’.

Scientists have produced gene-edited animals they say could serve as “super dads” or “surrogate sires”.
The pigs, goats, cattle and mice make sperm carrying the genetic material of donor animals.
The researchers used a hi-tech gene editing tool to knock out a male fertility gene in animal embryos.
The animals were born sterile, but began producing sperm after an injection of sperm-producing cells from donor animals. Read more

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has called for public hangings and chemical castration of rapists as authorities reported arresting a second man in connection with the rape of a woman on a popular highway in Punjab province last week.
The woman was raped in front of her children after her car ran out of fuel on a motorway near the eastern city of Lahore.
The incident drew a number of protesters to the streets in several cities, including Islamabad and Karachi, denouncing attacks on women. Read more

Aston Villa in talks over Lyon’s Bertrand Traore for £19m (BBC)
Aston Villa are in talks with Lyon over a £19m deal for forward Bertrand Traore.
The move has yet to be finalised but the 25-year-old is understood to be keen to come to Villa and knows assistant manager John Terry from his time at Chelsea.
Burkina Faso international Traore will require a work permit.
But Villa’s move is another indication of manager Dean Smith’s desire to revamp his squad.
Traore had loan spells at Eredivisie sides Vitesse and Ajax while at Chelsea before completing an £8.8m move to Lyon in June 2017.

Enugu Rangers yesterday became the first club to put off their resumption date following the uncertainty that has trailed the kickoff of the 2020/2021 of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
Enugu Rangers had earlier instructed their players to return to camp last weekend to begin preparations for the 2020/2021 season.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) recently announced that the 2020/2021 league will kickoff either this month or next month and end in May 2021 subject to the full reopening of the country and the approval of the health authorities. Read more

Britain’s former world number one Andy Murray has been given a wildcard to the main draw of this month’s French Open.
The 33-year-old Scot, currently ranked 110, required hip resurfacing surgery in 2019 to save his career and reached the US Open second round this month.
