Dami Ajayi, Nigerian poet and doctor in spat with BA over missing laptop

Award winning Nigerian poet and psychiatric doctor, Dr. Dami Ajayi is engaged in a twitter spat with British Airways following the loss/theft of his laptop while aboard a BA flight enroute Lagos from London.

Dr. Ajayi was on his way home after attending the Afrolution event in Germany after which he took time off to rest in London. He arrived Nigeria on Sunday July 7, 2019 sans laptop.

According to Dr. Ajayi: ”

“On the flight from Heathrow to Lagos, I sat in a window seat and my only company was sitting at the aisle seat. I put my laptop bag in the middle seat and once we were cruising, I brought out my laptop and bashed out an essay of about 3000 words.

One hour to the end of the flight, I packed up my laptop and read a few articles saved in Pocket. I must have stood up at least three times, once to stretch my legs and two or thrice to use the gents. The flight arrived in Lagos and went about my merry way until I opened my laptop bag and my Asus Zenbook laptop was gone.”

In a case reminiscent of Japhet Omojuwa and Arik Air, Ajayi is miffed by the British Carriers’ cavalier attitude to his plight.

The airline’s twitter handler had in response to Dr. Ajayi’s complaint asked him to lodge a complaint with the police at the airport but the poet had contended that his laptop was stolen mid-air and not at the airport.

Other twitter users made up of foreigners and members of Nigeria’s creative community have come out in their numbers in support of Dr. Ajayi who says by losing the laptop he has lost the manuscript of  a new literary project, a 7,000 word psychiatry proposal as well as scores of essays which he did not back up.

Entreaties have been made to British Airways to at least check their in-cabin CCTV footage to help trace the culprit and possibly recover the laptop.
