The National Association of Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria has advised the Federal Government to convey a tripartite meeting of parents, Academic Staff Union of Universities, and government so as to resolve the ongoing strike by the university teachers.

This was against the backdrop of the request from the Federal Government that parents’ associations should appeal to ASUU to call off its strike, while the government insisted that it did not have funds to meet the union’s demands.

Speaking in an interview with The PUNCH on Sunday, NAPTAN President, Mr Haruna Danjuma, explained that it was improper to ask the association to beg ASUU, adding that the government should meet ASUU’s demands.

He said, “If the government is saying parents should meet with ASUU, over what? ASUU didn’t direct their requests to PTA; they directed their demands to the government, their employer. Olawale-Cole said the advice had become necessary because the country’s rising debt stock was becoming increasingly problematic in the face of dwindling revenue and the unsustainable burden of subsidy payments.

He said that most recent statistics on government revenues showed poor performance and mounting government costs, making it evident that Nigeria was going through a debt crisis.

‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ sets China release date, despite political chill (Variety)

“Minions: The Rise of Gru” has been given a mainland China theatrical release date of Aug. 19, 2022. The move is a surprise given the strained current state of political and diplomatic relations between China and the U.S.

The film is produced by Universal and Illumination Entertainment. And the information was carried on Monday by Universal Pictures on its Weibo social media site in China.

“Long time no see, troublemakers! Get on the scooter, we’re back!” the posting said.

The advanced notice of less than two weeks gives the studio little time to support the promotional activities of the film’s official Chinese distributor, a phenomenon that has been a long-standing thorn in Hollywood’s cinematic relations with Chinese authorities. Read more

Although Warner Bros. Discovery has officially pulled the plug on release plans for “Scoob!: Holiday Haunt,” a followup to the 2020 animated film “Scoob!,” the film isn’t quite done with work yet. Producer Tony Cervone, who directed the first “Scoob!,” has revealed that the production is still recording the film’s score, despite the official cancellation.

On Saturday, Cervone shared a photo of his team working in a recording studio on Instagram.

“So what do you do when the movie is canceled, but you’ve already paid for the stage and the musicians?” Cervone wrote in the caption. “You record the damn score!”

Although recording a score for a film that will not be released isn’t exactly an ordinary practice, axing a film after the bulk of its production has already been completed — which was the case around “Scoob!: Holiday Haunt,” according to reports — isn’t ordinary either. Read more
