Day 4 at LABAF -Gabriella Opara

After a night of conversations and celebration dedicated to Fela comes to an end; another day of activities dawns at the 20th edition of the Lagos Art and Book Festival (LABAF).

Day four at LABAF will begin on a creative note, as creative workshops continue at the CORA Creative Youth Club (CYC), scheduled to hold at 9am in Freedom Park.

A theatre production, performed for the delight and appreciation of kids and adults alike, will start an hour after the workshops, expressing the true meaning of movement and what it communicates. The Kinniso International Theatre Festival (KITF) is organized by Kinniso Koncepts Productions and promises to be engaging and exciting.

So far, sessions at LABAF have been dedicated to artistes, musicians, readers and writers, however, at 10am today, publishers are given a chance to discuss the logistics of the book trade and what it fully entails. This plenary, which is in association with Quaramo publishing, will also address topics that affect publishing, such as; the business of book design, selling on the internet, challenges of distributing and selling in Nigeria and the benefits of self-publishing.

1pm will have LABAF taking guests through the sounds, times and experiences had since LABAF began. At this time, the festival will air footage and documentaries that explains the LABAF journey for the past two decades. This event is produced by Culture Advocates Caucus (CAC)

By 5pm students of the University of Lagos from the department of English will share their experiences of what it is like to live and study in Lagos, narrating their most personal Lagos stories. Professor Hope Eghagha, Unilag Dean of Arts, will also be in attendance.

Two hours after the Lagos stories have been narrated, poetry and food lovers can look forward to experiencing spoken word performances focused mainly on food and its importance in the Lagos scene. The stomach infrastructure performances will hold at Foodcourt in Freedom Park. It is produced by Artmosphere.

After all the bustle and excitement, guests get to wind down with a special blend of cocktails, poetry, music and drama as the evening comes to a close with tango performances by Freedom five band and Captain Jimi Badmus Agidigbo band. The evening will also feature more documentaries, this time focusing mainly on the CORA-LABAF Story.
