Day 5 at Lagos Fringe Festival 2018 – Uzoma Ihejirika

The Lagos Fringe Festival 2018 which had a spectacular opening ceremony on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, continues with even more exciting events today.

In its debut edition, Lagos Fringe, which kick off on November 11 the brainchild of Kenneth Uphopho and Brenda Fashugba, is an open access showcase for performers, exhibitors, vendors and production companies to present their work without restriction to style such as Theatre, Children’s theatre, Dance, Film, Spoken Word, Comedy, Music, Photography, Face Painting, etc.

This year’s festival is in collaboration with Women in the Arts (WIA) and Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF). The WIA are a collective of like-minded women in the creative industry spanning fashion, theatre, literature film, music and dance. On the other hand, AFRIFF is a world-class showcase that presents a complete immersion into the world of film making with participation from local and international filmmakers and professionals, celebrities, actors, directors, film critics, etc.

Starting off the day’s activities is the workshop titled “The Place of a Woman”, with Ayisha Osori, Head, Open Society Foundation, West Africa to give a keynote speech at Genesis Cinema, Maryland Mall. Also happening at the same time and in the same venue is a panel titled “Storytelling for advocacy against Gender Based Violence”, featuring Stephanie Busari and Ijeoma Ndukwe and moderated by Dr. Kemi DaSilva Ibru.

At 5pm, there will be a showing of the play “Colour Me Pink” at the British Council. The play deals with the aftermath of breast cancer and will be starring students from the Pawstudios Academy Bootcamp. At 6pm will feature a showing of the play “Home” showing at BDHC.

The 7 O’ clock events are as follows: At BDHC will be shown a play titled “Bridezilla” about a would-be bride who leaves her wedding and runs off.  “Esther’s Revenge”, a film chronicling events that led to a murder in 1953, will be showing at The Museum. At Kongi’s Harvest in Freedom Park, there will be a dramatization of “Lotor Devil’s Pilgrimage”, a play about a son’s dramatic reunion with his mother in Benin after a ten-year traumatic journey from Nigeria to Spain by road.

Rounding off the day’s events is a Karaoke night by 8:30pm at Food Court, Freedom Park. Attendance is free to all.
