Dear Lagosian, you will pay plenty tax in 2018 o – Toni Kan

My Dear Lagosian, Ambode is not smiling.

This year, your eye will see pepper if you live , work and earn an income in Lagos and finally, if you own property in Lagos and by property I don’t just mean landed property, even car sef.

The Lagos state government has set a target of N720bn for Internally Generated Revenue in 2018. That figure was hiked by 47% from the actual collected in 2017 which was a princely N340bn. What it means is that in 2018, you and I will help Ambode generate an extra N380bn over last year’s figure.

Now, Lagos has 20 million people including men, women and children. So, to generate N720bn every one of us in Lagos will have to pay N36,000 or N3,000 monthly.

Daddy Freeze shebi you no wan pay tithe. God don catch you. (Na joke o before you write an epistle on my head.)

Now, of that N720bn, the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service is expected to generate N440bn which means that we must pay our taxes o or there will be trouble. You know how a police man with a Roger target can beat a danfo driver, that is how LIRS will beat you and I this year if we don’t play ball. No kidding

This is the year of paying taxes and levies and charges.

Land Use Charge will go up by 200% to 500%.

Car registration, I understand has gone from N33,000 to about N100,000. So whether you buy a new one or go to get a new AutoReg for the New Year, just know it now – YOU WILL PAY MORE! ( The Lagos state government has refuted this through the Commissioner of Information and Strategy.)

Infact I hear that oxygen will be sold in some parts of Lagos. Lol.

So, what can Lagosians do? Two options – Shut up and pay or sell your property and buy in Ogun state. (Shhhhhh. Ogun state is far cheaper and Amosun gives CofO very fast))

And you, car owner, go to Ogun state and register your car too. Wetin sef!

Mr. Ayodele Hamzat Subair, the Executive Chairman of LIRS says the hikes in levies, charges and taxes have happened because Lagos state has infrastructure and social services challenges. According to him in an interview with Thisday “we are not just raising revenue to put up infrastructure, there is also provision of social services. There are all sorts of social services that need to be overhauled.”

Fair enough but can you guys do something about the refuse situation. Lagos stinks so bad!!!
