Delta: 1 dead, passengers hospitalised in Oleh accident

An Okada rider was confirmed dead, and three others hospitalised even as a driver escaped lynching by an angry mob after a truck rammed into his vehicle while driving against traffic in Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The incident which was confirmed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe led to tension in the town.

A Vanguard source disclosed that trouble started when police on duty stopped the vehicle driving against traffic and a moving truck ran into the vehicle which in turn crushed the Okada, passenger, and others.

The source said the Okada rider died instantly leading the angry mob to set ablaze the vehicle as he escaped police arrest.

About four others were injured and were rushed to the Oleh Central Hospital and Maranatha Clinic respectively.

Confirming the incident, SP Bright Edafe said, “Contrary to the trending news, it was the Sienna driving against traffic that was burnt and not the police van.

“The Sienna was driving against traffic and police stopped him as to why he should drive one way. As he stopped, an oncoming tipper lost control and ran into the Sienna which collided with the Okada and passengers.” He said
Other sources confirmed that one person died, and three others injured were rushed to hospital. However, the truck driver was arrested by police as the Sienna driver escaped as angry mob set the vehicle on fire. (Vanguard)
