Denis Shapovalov wants to be like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal (Metro)

Denis Shapovalov revealed he spent time in the off-season doing some ‘soul searching’ as he began to feel the pressure of being under the spotlight.

The young Canadian has enjoyed a dramatic rise into the world’s top-30, famously beating Rafael Nadal to announce himself on the world stage in 2017 at the Rogers Cup, but admitted criticism was getting to him after several first losses in 2018.

Feeling the pressure, the 19-year-old sat down with his team to evaluate exactly what he wants to get out of the sport and he came up with a definitive answer: to be just like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
