Despite N150m budget, INEC fails to provide Brailled ballot papers (Punch)

A visually impaired civil servant, Mr. Hamzat Kamarudeen, has protested against the Independent National Electoral Commission’s failure to make Brailled ballot papers available for him and others like him.

This is despite INEC’s budget of N150m for Braille.

INEC’s election budget reads in part, “Pilot deployment of Braille/assistive tactile balloting instruments and voting cubicles for physically challenged voters: N150,000,000.00.

“Provisions for Braille/assistive tactile instruments and voting cubicles @15,400.”

However, Kamarudeen, who is blind, lamented in an interview with our correspondent after casting his vote during the governorship and House of Assembly elections at State Senior Grammar School (Special) on Itolo Street, Surulere, Lagos on Saturday. Read more
