Didier Deschamps praised Anthony Martial’s maturity after naming the Manchester United forward in his squad for France’s upcoming clashes with the Netherlands and Uruguay.
Martial, 22, was not included in Deschamps’ World Cup-winning squad in the summer and was also snubbed for the side’s recent Nations League matches against Germany and Holland.
However, Martial has been crucial for United in the last few weeks, scoring five goals in his last five appearances for the club, and has been rewarded with an international call-up.
Deschamps has been reluctant to tinker with his squad which triumphed in Russia but Martial’s barnstorming form was impossible to ignore.
There was, though, no place for Alexandre Lacazette in Deschamps’ party despite an impressive start to the 2018/19 campaign for the Arsenal striker. Read more
