Diesel tanker accident worsens gridlock on Lagos – Ibadan expressway (Guardian)
It was another day of lamentation by commuters and motorists as a diesel-laden tanker, yesterday, fell and spilled its content around Ibafo Bus Stop, thereby worsening traffic along Lagos- Ibadan expressway.
The loaded truck was coming to Lagos when the accident happened.
To avert a fire incident, police officers from Ibafo Divisional Police Headquarters and responders condoned off the road, while the content was being trans-loaded into another truck.
For fear of the loaded tanker bursting into fire, motorists took one way and blocked Lagos-bound vehicles. Read more
Plane crashlands at Abuja Airport (ThisDay)
A Max Air aircraft on Sunday crash-landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja after the tyre reportedly burst into flames.
The aircraft crash-landed in Abuja with emergency officials already on ground to put out the fire before the passengers disembarked right at the runway.
Unconfirmed reports said the aircraft had arrived from Yola, Adamawa State when the incident happened. Read more
Man beats son to death for stealing 1 mudu of millet (DailyTrust)
A 16-year-old boy, Mustapha Sunusi, was on Friday evening clubbed to death by his father, Abdulwahab Sunusi, for allegedly stealing one measure (mudu) of millet in Tanagar village in Warawa LGA of Kano State.
A witness said, “Abdulwahab went overboard in an attempt to instill discipline on his 16-year-old son. He lost control of his emotions and clubbed the poor boy to death.”
The incident came barely 48 hours after a 22-year-old man hacked his mother to death at the Rimi Kebe area of Kano metropolis. Read more
PDP alleges plot to influence presidential election tribunal (Sun)
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged plots by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to influence the outcome of petition before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
It claimed the APC was apprehensive given the weight of evidence against its candidate and refusal of majority of Nigerians to accept the outcome of the February 25 poll.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, at a press briefing, yesterday, in Abuja, alleged intimidation, harassment, threats and vicious attacks by APC leaders against Nigerian youths and eminent Nigerian personalities following the petition. Read more
Lagos launches agric-tech scheme for students (Punch)
As part of efforts to promote school farming and expose students to modern agricultural skills and techniques, the Lagos State Government has launched the Smart Aquaponics and Poultry System Units in six colleges in the state.
The development is also part of the state government’s effort to engender food security and stimulate the interest of the younger generation in farming.
According to a statement, this was disclosed by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms Abisola Olusanya, at the handover ceremony of the six completed SAP-Sys units. Read more
APM terminal generates $440m FDI in 17 years (Nation)
The operators of Nigeria’s largest container terminal, APM Terminals, Apapa, said they have brought more than $440 million worth of foreign direct investment (FDI) into Nigeria in its 17 years of existence in the country.
The Country Managing Director, APM Terminals Nigeria, Frederik Klinke, stated this, while celebrating its 17th anniversary of the port concession agreement it signed with the Federal Government in 2006.
The company, he said, has made substantial investment in upgrading its facility, training, equipment and technology which has boosted service delivery at the port. Read more

Following the revelations in a viral video, showing soldiers in military uniform manhandling and maltreating some civilians at a popular hotel in Kaduna, the Nigerian Army has directed the immediate investigation into the audio-visual footage to ascertain its veracity, with a view to identifying the culprits.
According to a statement by Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, “A provocative and unacceptable video footage trending on the social media, in which certain persons clad in military camouflage were seen molesting civilians, has been brought to the attention of the Nigerian Army, NA.
“The condemnable incident, which was said to have taken place at 2 Season Hotel and Resorts, Kaduna is an aberration of the values and ethics of professionalism, courage, selflessness and service to humanity which the NA represents. Read more
Sudan crisis: Another 132 Nigerian evacuees arrive Abuja (Tribune)
The third batch of 132 stranded Nigerian nationals evacuated from the war-prone Sudan on Saturday arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at 1:31 pm.
The returnees airlifted by Tarco Aviation flight from Port Sudan were received at the Hajj Terminal of the Airport by the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Dr Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, Director General, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mustapha Habib Ahmed, and Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCom), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
While addressing the returnees, Dr Sani-Gwarzo disclosed that: “more aircrafts will go. Our limitation has not been the ability to send aircrafts but the fact that large-bodied aircraft cannot go to Port Sudan at the moment except smaller ones. Read more

Warring Sudan factions begin negotiations in Saudi Arabia (UPI)
Representatives of Sudan’s military government and the breakaway Rapid Support Forces began cease-fire negotiations in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, Saudi officials said.
The talks between the warring factions were launched in the Saudi city Jeddah, according to a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency.
The U.S. and Saudi governments said they “welcome the start of pre-negotiation talks between representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces” in a joint statement issued Friday. Read more

Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace have both condemned alleged racial abuse towards South Korean forward Son Heung-min after the teams faced each other on Saturday.
In a statement on Sunday, Crystal Palace said the club is “aware of a video circulating online (as well as reports made directly to us) regarding an individual in the away end at Spurs yesterday, appearing to make racist gestures towards Heung-Min Son.”
The statement added: “Evidence has been shared with the police, and when he is identified, he will face a club ban. We will not tolerate such behaviour in our club.” Read more
