Doctor ‘told mum to starve son’ so he could get eating disorder treatment (Metro)

A mother claims she was told to starve her son to deal with his eating disorder.

Katy Spence, 33, went to her GP last week hoping to get son Xander Spence a referral to help with his avoidant-restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID).

The schoolboy, eight, has a list of just 11 ‘safe foods’ he will eat and each of these has to be a specific brand and prepared in a specific way.

Desperate for a confirmed diagnosis and help for her son, Katy booked an appointment at Brannel Surgery in Saint Austell, Cornwall, but says she was ‘fobbed off’ as Xander is a healthy weight. Read more
