Doctor warns health workers against posting patients pictures on social media

A Consultant of Plastic Surgery, Edo State Specialist Hospital, Dr. Elimian Hilary, has warned health workers against posting of patients pictures on the internet saying it is against the ethics of the profession.

He gave the warning at the Annual General Meeting/Scientific Conference (AGM), with the theme:”Ethical Issues of Social Media in Healthcare”, organized by the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), State Hospitals Management Agency, Edo state.

He said any professional doctor that does that has violated the professional ethics regulating the profession.

Dr Hilary stressed that people may also use the photos to start collecting money on behalf of the patient without the patient knowing it.

Earlier in his remarks, the Ag. President, Association of Resident Doctors, Edo State Hospital Management Agency, Dr Uaboi Ovbiagele, lamented the incessant brain drains in the sector maintaining that it has affected it negatively.

He said the government at all levels should wade in by ensuring that doctors are well paid so that they will remain in their country and contribute their quota to the development of the sector .

“The brain drain of mass Exodus of doctors living Nigeria to other nations is becoming a phenomenon in the country because doctors are looking for greener pastures and you really cannot blame them.

“I am of the opinion that Nigeria will get better. And to also call on the federal, states and local governments in general to make the welfare of doctor comfortable for them so that they can remain in the country and serve the people”, he said. (Sun)
