Donald Trump has backtracked on threats to start a war with Iran hours after its leaders launched missiles at a US base in Iraq.

The president struck a conciliatory tone during a White House press conference at 11:30am EST Wednesday, saying: ‘Iran appears to be standing down which appears to be a very good thing for all parties concerned and a very good thing for the world.’
