‘Don’t get mad, get even’: I’ve not stopped acting – Wale Ojo

Actor Wale Ojo has said that he has not stopped acting. He was speaking during the press briefing and unveiling of the trailer for his directorial debut, Don’t get mad, get even at the Silverbird Galleria in Lagos on Friday.

“I’ve not stopped acting,” he said while reacting to the question that he was not visible in any of the scenes that made it to the trailer unveiled to the journalists present.

“I actually played a ‘waka pass’ role in the film and I will continue to act in the industry,” he explained.

He said it was such a wonderful experience directing the film, which is about two brothers and stars Femi Jacobs, Nancy Isime, Deyemi Okanlanwon, who were present at the briefing and a host of others.

“It is a film about relationship. One brother is very traditional – one man, one woman and that is it. The other brother is one man, many women. And there is a clash. The film really explores that clash,” he said.

While encouraging people to make it a point of duty to go see the film, he said he and the cast and crew worked with a very good and strong script to bring it to reality. Shot in scenic Cotonou in neighbouring Benin Republic, he said they were thankful to that country’s government for welcoming them to shoot the film there.

“We shot the film at great locations and that is why we are giving the opportunity to five couples who come to see the film to go on a romantic trip to experience the locations,” Wale Ojo said.

He said another reason why people should go see the film is the good acting from the stellar cast, whom he thanked for their dedication to the film project. Executive producer and the scriptwriter, Raphael Dedenuola, commended Wale Ojo for doing a wonderful job of transmitting his vision to reality.

“They all did a wonderful job on the film. They nailed it beyond my expectation,” he said.

Deyemi Okanlanwon, who is part of the cast and represented Silverbird Cinemas, which is distributing the film at the briefing, said they were very excited about the partnership.

“Beyond the fact that I’m part of the cast, I really like the film,” he said.

Nancy Isime said that her shooting experience on the set was very exciting and that she has been unable to stop talking about it.

“Shooting in the industry is usually tedious but this is one shoot where actors’ safety and comfort were put into consideration,” she said. She explained that this was largely due to Wale Ojo’s expertise and the magnanimity of the executive producer and his family.

Femi Jacobs said the first time he saw the script he was very excited about it and is glad that the executive producer did not cut corners to produce it.

“He is the kind of person I like to work with. They are in love with what they do and they give everything. His wife, his children, everybody was involved in looking after the cast and the set. We had a great time, we really had a great time,” he said.

Joseph Okonkwo from Ekulo Group of Companies said his company was delighted to be a part of the exciting film project.

The other members of the cast include Kenneth Okolie, Toyin Abrahams, Patience Ozonkwor, Jide Kosoko, Ayo Adesanya, Said Balogun and Jumoke George.

Don´t get mad, get even is an extremely hilarious, entertaining and intriguing romantic comedy that tells the story of Jaiye and Juwon Kuti, two brothers whose relationship becomes estranged when the younger brother Juwon drops out of school to pursue a music career.

Eventually, Jaiye, owing to the economic downturn, moves into his younger brother’s house, who is then successful music producer.

The comedy revolves around their conflicting lifestyles as the brothers are complete opposites with little or nothing in common.

The film, a production of RGD Media Productions, will premiere on September 29 and will be released in cinemas nationwide on October 4.
