DPO, 6 others die as gunmen attack another police station in Anambra (Sun)
Barely 24 hours after six gunmen were neutralized by the operatives of the Anambra State Police Command during an attack on a police facility in the state, gunmen have again attacked another police station in the state.
The attack, which occured in the early hours of Monday happened at Awada police station in Onitsha metropolis.
It was gathered that the gunmen who stormed the station in cars, came in their numbers, armed with with petrol bombs and other kinds of weapons, with which they launched attack on the police facility.
Although, the exact number of casualties is yet to ascertained, reports say that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and two other officers attached to the station paid the supreme price during the attack, while three of the unknown gunmen were also neutralized by the police. Read more

Ahead of Saturday’s general elections, the National Women Leader of the Labour Party (LP), Dudu Manuga, has assured women that the party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will prioritize women’s empowerment towards lifting many families out of poverty.
Speaking Monday in Abuja, Manuga described Obi as the only candidate who has raised so many people through capacity building and has proven to be a visionary leader.
Noting that male politicians have over the years, marginalized women in politics, disempowered them in business and emasculated them when it comes to leadership, she expressed optimism that Obi would change the narrative if elected. Read more
Lagos ADC gov candidate denies stepping down for PDP (Channels)
The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos State, Funso Doherty, has denied stepping down for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor
In a statement on Monday, Doherty said media reports claiming that the ADC has collapsed its structure in Lagos for the PDP is untrue.
According to him, the Jandor reached out to him, seeking a meeting and suggesting a collaboration, but he rejected the offer. Read more
Men in court for stealing Lagos chief’s N39.3m property (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned four suspects for breaking into the palace of a chief, Shefiu Olamiji, and stealing property worth over N39.3m on the premises of the building at Okegun village, in the Ibeju Lekki area of the state.
The suspects, Rafiu Taibu, 51, Semiu Ogunkoya, 39, Kazeem Ogunkoya, 46, Akeem Adeboyega, and others at large, were arraigned on four counts bordering on stealing, malicious damage and conducts likely to cause a breach of peace, among others preferred against them by the police.
They were arraigned on February 15, 2023, before Magistrate L.A. Owolabi. Read more
3 gunmen killed in another police station attack (Nation)
Three gunmen were on Monday morning killed by police in Awada Police station near Obosi, Anambra State.
The Nation gathered the deceased attempted to set the station ablaze when they were repealed by the police after a fire exchange.
Confirming the incident, Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Christian Aburime, in a statement titled: “End of the road for another gang of murderers and arsonists” said two AK 47 and vehicles used for the failed operation were recovered. Read more
APC suspends national vice chairman for associating with Adamawa governor (Vanguard)
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended its North East Vice Chairman, Mustapha Salihu for six months over alleged “anti-party activities”.
According to a notice of suspension released by the party, Salihu had been associating with Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a move the party feels might affect its chances in the forthcoming poll.
Meanwhile, Salihu’s ward chairman, Abdulkadir Abdullahi, Salihu was also suspended.
Notices of their suspension were signed by Abdulhadi Ahmed, Vice Chairman of the Rumde ward, and Garba Mohammed, ward secretary. Read more
Violent protest rocks Ogun over naira scarcity, banks vandalised (Guardian)
Irked by the difficulties in getting cash following the Federal Government’s new monetary policy, youths in Sagamu on Monday attacked two banks destroying properties.
The protesters who had earlier gathered in front of the palace of the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, set up barricades on major roads thereby disrupting the free flow of traffic.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the protesters later marched on the two commercial banks at Ijoku in Sagamu destroying properties. Read more

BAFTA viewers were left disappointed after industry legend Bernard Cribbins was left out of the award show’s In Memoriam segment.
Every year, the BAFTA’s pay tribute to film industry contributors who have passed away over the last twelve months.
Last night’s (February 19) ceremony honoured late film icons such as Olivia Newton John, Robbie Coltrane, Angela Lansbury and James Caan, but viewers noticed that Cribbins – known for starring in films such as The Railway Children and the Carry On series – was not among those listed.
Sally Thomsett, who starred in The Railway Children alongside the late actor, tweeted: “Darlings, have watched The BAFTA’s on TV and I’m absolutely appalled that the fabulous Bernard Cribbins was not mentioned in stars that we’ve lost within the last year, they should be disgusted with themselves, words fail me.” Read more

Placebo announce huge open-air Margate show (NME)
Placebo have announced details of a huge open-air gig in Margate for this summer.
The gig comes as part of the Margate Summer Series and will take place at the Dreamland venue on June 9.
Also playing the series are Bastille, UB40, Primal Scream and Happy Mondays among others between June and September.
Placebo’s show comes as part of Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal recently rescheduled 2023 UK and Ireland tour, which came after the band were forced to postpone their remaining tour dates in December last year after frontman Molko lost his voice. Read more

The Warriors star got a tad defensive when the basketball Hall of Famer said that Golden State is “cooked” this season during the NBA All-Star broadcast. Charles Leclerc says he’s been “very impressed” by what he’s seen so far from new Ferrari boss Frédéric Vasseur, praising the Frenchman for how he introduced himself to the team.
Vasseur arrived at Maranello in early January to take over the reins of the Scuderia from his predecessor Mattia Binotto who handed in his resignation at the end of last season.
The former Alfa Romeo F1 boss is still in the process of getting up to speed with Ferrari’s various departments but after Vasseur’s first month on the job, Leclerc was left with a very positive impression of his former mentor and Sauber team boss. Read more
