Man poses as drink seller to rob in Lagos traffic (Punch)

Operatives of the Lagos State Task Force on Environment and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit have arrested a man allegedly notorious for robbing motorists held in traffic in the Oshodi area of Lagos State.

The suspect, Kayode Oluwole, 27, allegedly disguised as a drink seller and attacked unsuspecting motorists who wanted to patronise him.

The police said whenever the gimmick failed, the suspect usually resorted to force, using a hammer to break car glasses and robbing owners of their phones and other valuables. Read more

Police arrest manufacturer of fake wine, whiskey (Nation)

A suspected manufacturer of adulterated alcoholic beverages and liquors has been arrested by the police in Lagos.

The suspect, Benjamin Ojukwu, 53, who was arrested by police operatives from the Area D Command in Mushin, was paraded by the state Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, on Tuesday.

Edgal said Ojukwu’s arrest would reduce death occasioned by adulterated beverages, adding that the suspect was apprehended at 56 Market Road, Ojuwoye, Mushin, on March 30. Read more

Police recover over 200 firearms in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday said it had recovered more than 200 illegally acquired firearms from individuals and suspected hoodlums in the last seven months.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Edgal Imohimi, made the disclosure at a news conference in Lagos.

Imohimi said that the firearms were recovered from suspected hoodlums and those that embraced the 21 days grace period given by the Inspector-General of Police to submit their illegally possessed firearms. Read more

Okada rider robs passengers of N.65m (Punch)

A 26-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Lateef Sanni, was on Thursday remanded in Kirikiri Prisons on the orders of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to robbing his passengers of N650,000.

Sanni, who lives at No. 5, Olorunfemi St., Igando, a Lagos suburb, is facing a two-count charge bordering on robbery.

Following his guilty plea, the Magistrate, Mrs. I. O. Raji, said the accused be kept behind the bars pending sentence at the next date of adjournment.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Rachael Williams, said the accused committed the offences on February 12 at 10.30 p.m. at Oko-Afor Bus Stop on Lagos-Badagry Expressway. Read more
